Mike, Please note that I said in the last part of my first paragraph that, "it doesn't discount...the gold diggers". I know that those women exist, they just aren't the majority. I have heard guys talking about women like those, asking for rent money, borrowing money, expecting guys to buy expensive presents. I can say that I have NEVER meant any women like these. All the women I have met and dated have been self-sufficient, throughout my dating life.

 

I'd pair myself with IB once she removes that silly little restraining order.

Which basically means that a man can earn a living by either professional basketball(meaning any profession that does not require a degree) or formal education.

I agree with you Tami. Perhaps, it's because it seems to be more about "winning the argument", then sharing a view point. People seems overly invested in their ideas. At the end of the day we are all just sharing our opinions.

Yeah but what makes more sense in the long term span of time? Being an athlete or being educated in a technological field that's beneficial for the United States to maintain its competitive edge against other countries in the world? I'm an athlete (pretty fast runner), but I know that I can't run on ESPN because that would be a full time job that would be unsustainable. Athletes would eventually burn themselves out from pushing their bodies too hard or sustain an injury that would hinder their potential. That would be the end of their career and yet, they have no educational degree to turn to that supplies them with a source of income.

It makes more sense that you have an education giving you a job/career in the workforce rather than being an athlete (as a career) because you think it's easier that girls would like guys who are the best athletes rather than guys who are educated and have a 3.5 GPA or something. Either way, most of those people would eventually get a girlfriend anyway in the future.

 

A sensible man who knows the complexity of the topic and doesnt see things in "extremes" :smt001


Your last point in bold. A woman gets an idea of your worth the second you tell her what you do for a living, your education, sees your house or all of the above. Its not as simple as ..."how much do you make" Nor are any of the men here saying women are being that brash/cold.

 

I completely disagree Tam. The women in this thread were concerned about "proving" they and their circle of people they knew were independent women who didn't need a man's money to show they were better than all those "gold digging" bitches out there. You guys were actin in extremes as the women on here often do. You guys draw a line in the sand where its either gold digger or independent self sufficient who don't need nor want a man's money. My entire argument was about what's attractive, what women are drawn to and why not what they sought out.
I kept saying I know most women aren't gold diggers but most are attracted to a man who earns a good living. Its basic instinct its instictual and to deny that is ridiculous. I'm assuming for many of you its because your far past child rearing years or don't want kids and never expect to take leave from work for family.

 

Although I agree %100 with you. Its irrelevant. Again, basketball was simply used as an example. You over analyzed it and missed the context.

Median household income is $94k here, the state average is $69k. For some women (specifically where I am), it's more about money and what you have than how you look and your personality. That's why I haven't gotten very far with WW around here, they either aren't interested or I don't have enough money or good enough possessions to "qualify" to be with them.

I know, it's a reality in this area. That's why I'm looking at colleges further up in the northeast to try to apply to when community college is over at the end of the year. I know that the median household incomes of the people living up there is lower than it is in Columbia, so it's more likely that the WW that are also there focus more-so on you personally and not about your money/possessions/perceived value.

Andre, it's not about my self-esteem, it's reality here. You all brought up the idea of money anyway. Why can't I express out what I say without you and others getting pissed off?

Do you even know what median income means? 50% of the people in the county actually earn above $94k a year and the top 1% make $188k a year.

 

I'm not pissed just sad for you kid. Your truly at age where money doesn't matter as much. In college all people want to do is get drunk and hook up. Finding a decent girl shouldn't be as hard as you're making it seem. Grow some balls and enjoy life kid.

 

I told you already I'm in community college, that stuff doesn't really work here.

 

Max, I am in agreement with you that the men weren't suggesting that. In fact, I ended the first paragraph by saying, if that' what you guys mean, then I'm in agreement with you.

It's probably intuitive to think that a woman knows how much you make based on your job, education, house etc. But, those things are so nebulous. Simply having a good education doesn't automatically suggest a certain income. Many of the attorneys I know want to leave the profession because they don't make much money. TV hypes up attorneys that way but it's far from the truth. Medical doctors, depending on where they work, will earn good salaries but they won't be rich, especially considering that they leave medical school with $200K or more of bills. Same can be true for attorneys by the way, in terms of money owed on loans. You can't look at possessions as there are people who choose to live a less "material" life style.

I'm not trying to be contrary, just suggesting that it really isn't that easy. I know that there was a time that I lived very much below my means. On the other hand, you have the "ballers" who may live very much above their means and people think that they have more than they possess.

 

No doubt.. which is why i said they get an idea. Its not meant to imply that theyve got a calculator out...Instead, gauging where a man is at in his life.

But youre right, I know my fare share of dudes that drive a Lexus with a $500 a month car note and live in someone's basement.
