Kid Rock’s use of Confederate flag sparks NAACP boycott EmailPrint..By Detroit News detroit News – Fri Mar 4, 12:43 pm ET Mark Hicks, Detroit News staff writer Some NAACP supporters plan to boycott the Detroit arm's annual fundraiser over an honor for Kid Rock they say doesn't mesh with the civil rights group's goals. The rocker is set to receive the Detroit branch's Great Expectations Award at the annual dinner, which typically attracts about 10,000 people, on May 1 at Cobo Center. But Adolph Mongo, a longtime political consultant and head of Detroiters for Progress, said he and others will sit out over Kid Rock's use of the controversial Confederate flag during performances. "It's a slap in the face for anyone who fought for civil rights in this country," Mongo said Thursday. "It's a symbol of hatred and bigotry." NAACP officials defended the honor. "Kid Rock ... has consistently lifted up the Great Expectations of many persons … concerning the future of the city," Donnell R. White, interim executive director of the Detroit Branch NAACP, said in a statement. Kid Rock and his representatives couldn't be reached. But in a 2008 interview with the Guardian in Britain, he said the flag to him represents southern rock 'n' roll. ======================================================= Is the NAACP overly sensitive or is kid rock not thinking
I think he's probably ignorant of the controversy. Lil Jon did the same thing as well in some of his videos/media; I can't find an article where he actually gives his side on things. Luda did it too but it was meant to actually provide a discussion on racism itself.
I don't know much about the rebal flag issue and Kid Rock celebrating it. He started out doing rap then found his true self with rock/country music. I wonder will the media mention he as a son that is half black. Will the some bogus writer mention this? We shall see.
Oh, he has the Confederate flag so me must be racist huh? Even though he has a black kid and is good friends with Rev Run. I'm not gonna even get started on the fact that not only does he have black performers on stage with him but he's had black people rap on his albums. I'd love to see the idiots from this thread come and speak on this matter. http://whitewomenblackmen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16938&highlight=confederate Mr. Fantastic Eye of Ra Tamstrong Tony Soprano Come on, you guys are experts on Confederate flags and according to you this makes Kid Rock ignorant and racist. I just gave my supportive evidence to the fact that he's not racist, now can you dispute any of that? hahahahahahahhahaha dorks.
"I think he's probably ignorant of the controversy" You are so naive..where do you live?....Sesame Street?
C'mon now bitch-ass dude. You'd be talking shit about him if he waved a nazi flag.. Strom Thrumond had a "Black kid" and several Black girlfriends...and he was racist as hell.
I think it just means to him as it does to many whites which is not a racist thing but a southern pride thing. However being that he is not from the south it does make you say hmm. But my thing is you would think with him having a biracial son he would be a little more racially sensitive.
The nazis can say the same thing about their loser flag. They wave that flag to be RACIST...if it were about pride they'd burn the mofo because MOST whites in the confederacy were damn near poor as slaves.
I'd be mad if Denzel Washington was waving the Nazi flag, but since neither is doing so I don't know how that is relevant. Also we're not talking about Strom Thurmond we're talking about Kid Rock. haha try again.
So the nazi flag makes you mad but not the confederate flag?? No wonder people think you're a white troll. Strom had a child with a BW....according to you that means he's not a racist. Crazy ass mofo.
I don't know anything about Kid Rock but the confederate flag represents slavery and racism, period! Also the stars and bars is the confederate "battle flag" not the flag of the confederacy. As such it has pointed symbolism, which is why many southern states added it to the their state flags as a response to the civil rights act in the 60's. Given its history, clearly Kid Rock would have been better off selecting a different symbol to represent "southern rock" "Far from a "peculiar institution," slavery was, as Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens declared, 'the cornerstone" of the Confederacy. As such, it was protected even more in the Confederate Constitution than it had been in the proslavery U.S. Constitution of 1787". Slavery was the protected law of the land and was to be the law of any future land the Confederacy would acquire. Their own constitution lays this out plain as day, so anytime someone argues that the civil war/succession was about "States Rights" or "economic inequities", just point out this clause in the confederate constitution. Whereas the original constitution did not even use the word slavery, but "Person held to Service or Labour" which included whites in indentured servitude, the confederate constitution addresses the legality of slavery directly and by name. Continuing the US government's prohibition of importation of slaves after the year 1808, which is in the Articles of the confederate constitution unlike the U.S. Constitution, the confederate constitution does make explicit the legal protection of owning slaves. No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passed [by Congress] The constitution likewise prohibited the Confederate Congress from abolishing or limiting slavery in Confederate territories (unlike the United States, where, prior to the Dred Scott decision, Congress had prohibited slavery in some territories). This did not necessarily mean that individual states could not ban slavery. However, section 2 of Article IV specified that "citizens of each State shall be entitled to all the privileges and immunities of citizens in the several States; and shall have the right of transit and sojourn in any State of this Confederacy, with their slaves and other property; and the right of property in said slaves shall not be thereby impaired".
Kid Rock having a black child is only 1 of the reasons I listed. Now, can you explain why he not only performs with blacks but makes music with them? Then after that can you explain why he's good friends with Rev Run? Do you think a member of Run DMC would be good friends with a racist? I stopped reading right there.
If you wanna provide actual discussion, do so. Don't drop ad hominems if you don't understand what people mean when they post.
Uh oh, Run better not leave his kids alone with Kid Rock, he may hang them:smt119 Look at the hatred in his eyes, he clearly appears to be disgusted by the fact that he's in a house full of black people.
Don't pay him too much attention, Hellspawn. He can get a little hot-headed at times with these kinds of debates. The whole thing about the confederate flag is something that really shouldn't be so controversial. In my opinion, beyond the fact that it represents racism, it represents conservatism and white supremacy.
