Its a good question. just saw this documentary. but the part that irks me is the part where we see that the children have learned to LOVE the white barbie doll over the black doll. we're hardwired to hate ourselves.

but i admit that i'm guilty. when i was 10 years old i can see now that i was very racist. if your were to ask me which is the better g.i. joe toy the black or the white. I probably would've choosen the white g.i. joe action figure.

but at the same time i was racist too. its sad.

i'm glad that i saw this presentation below about being black in germany. it made me calm down.

It's called White Supremacy. Everything is White dominated, so it's hard not to get psychologically sucked into it. It's mental rape.

    too true.

If i ever have children. (i mist likey won't) but if i do. I will make certain that they grow up with a world view and speak diff. languages and live or atleast experience diff. countries. If i cannot give them this experience then i won't have babies.

because clearly this is MOSTLY a problem of the U.S.

I'm not saying that white supremacy, racisim and so on doesn't happen in other countries but its an issue here in the U.S.

there is a veil of racism/prejudice even within the black race, but when you point it out openly people look at you like you're crazy.

That's because people feel that it is better to act as though it doesn't exist. That way if it is none existent then you don't have to deal with it. If you begin to deal with it, friends that you thought were your friends begin to manifest mindsets that you didn't know they had. That is very uncomfortable and sometimes even painful to deal with...so you pretend it doesn't exist to avoid the break up of friendships or even marriages in some cases.

Well, you can't control the world and the outside forces, but you can raise your babies however you want. That is your job and your prerogative what you want them to know and learn. That open-mind, multicultural, well-rounded upbringing won't hurt them and will be beneficial, but if you do have mixed kids here in the U.S., theres a territory that comes with it and that you should make sure you teach them about loving themselves and dealing with this racist country etc., which I see you're aware of.

Having racism is awful, but then having intraracism on top of it too, is so sad.

I don't think its RACIST. People use that word far to loosely.

    ...from an American perspective.

    - less than 15% of this country is black.
    - Whites make up 200 million out of 300 million people (contrary to many whites thinking they are now the minority)
    - given the state of the black community...and what we value as our popular focus.

...if black families want their children to see positive black images, they must surround their children with positive black images.

My daughter CHOOSES black dolls though her mother is not. (and there are no Asian Barbies)....because I made sure there were POSITIVE black images surrounding her.

yeah. i just had an argurement with my father about this. and being that he is older than myself he tries to act like it doesn't even happen in our own immediate family. some people feel comfortable not acknowledge the B.S. going on right in front of them. Simply put we lie to ourselves so that we can get on with our day!

its sad really. even when we bring up the issue of Lookism as it relates to brown people. Its sad.

i will never laugh at a weave joke ever again!

That whole barbie doll thing is irrelevant, don't know why people bring it up.

When I was 5 I believed in Santa Clause.

Are they gonna do a study to show that people these days are growing up too gullible?

    When I was 5 I didn't have a care in the world.

Are they gonna do a study to prove that people are growing up without any sense of responsibility, or plans for the future?

When I was 5 my heroes were cartoon characters.

Are they gonna do a study showing that kids are growing up with the wrong heroes?

Who cares if a little kid thinks a white doll is better then the black doll. One day they'll grow out of it, and things will fall into place....

well thanks for the encouragement. i mostly likely won't. And i'm dealing with alot of B.S. in my life, which i feel can only be resolved if a make a permanent move to another country. that's where i will live.

    the documentary above

    and this clip from

shows just how bad and confusing things can get.

so when you add in the racial tension that exist in this country, it gives me a headache.

its good that we have a global economy. that create situations where people can move around and get away from it.

I think the one on the left in the pink dress looks very Asian. Look at her eyes.

I don't advise running away from issues thinking things will fare better in another country, cause you'll only take them (your baggage) along with your luggage with you, but it's your life. Now if you're trying to escape our racial tension/relations, then I understand. Then again, you can come across other issues. Who knows. Whatever makes you happy and works for you.

YUP. that's it. now you're getting it right! that's exactly what i'm trying to do. I'm sure i'll solve one problem, and encounter new issues, but a black male friend of mine told me in his own words "man this non sense going on here within the black race and all the racial tensions and cultural codes in the U.S. is pure bullshit. damn, i could be in germany right now, but my kids are american and black and they're home is here! If i could leave i would go now though!"

and now that i saw the presentation on germany in the link i posted and because i've heard good things, i want to give it a try.

its gonna be hard though. i know little kids that can speak 4 languages and are doing foreign exchange types of learning. So it will take some time! it won't be easy.

they may possibly resemble mixed race light skin people? so it could be a caucasian-asian doll?

i think that's the point. its all in the features not the actual ethnic mix.
