I wrote this thread JUST CUZ...no real reason. I do it often.

...doesn't it depend on whether or not the sword being used is double edged or not? For example Japanese swords generally only have one sharp side to its blade. Then it would depend on what type of swipe or cut. Is it a yoko giri which is a side cut, or kesa giri, which is a verticle cut. But are done with a single fluid motion.

The step are as follows

From (1) an overhead position, with the sword perfectly horizontal (check in the mirror to make sure) it is
(2) cast out, much like casting a fishing rod by pulling with the left hand at the bottom, much like a lever until

(3) it makes contact with the head or shoulder of the opponent and then

(4) simply drops down to stop horizontally again. The action should be done without ‘power’, allowing the blade to drop down.

The way the cut is produced....very little chance of the swordsman being cut by his own blade.
