Just saw this funny movie called

    My baby daddy from 2004.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad3G7wcwyV0

Then it made me remember this old song by the same name from the 90's.

even though both the movie and the song made me laugh

they both made me look at the whole issue of family, marriage and kids and what its all means.

i guess its an issue of your beliefs and what culture your were raised and what your financial situation is too as well as your personality and temperment. when i was teenager my father always said to me "when you have your kids"

but now i'm rethinking the whole child issue. and the whole issue of not only the cost of having babies but giving your children the love and the discipline they need is an difficult task.

i often ask my divorced parents "why did you guys have us" and they give me a culturally programmed response.

i'm very much on the fence about having babies and i'm even questioning the value of marriage too. it is true that love stinks sometimes but along with having a new child free generation, i think a marrige free generation will emerge oneday.

how does a status ring and legal documents validate the love that should already be there. i just recently looked at the divorce rates in this country and its staggering. i mean really what is a marriage. Its basically a contract that gives your the right to sue if your not happy, which is what a divorce is.

also another article talks about how kids can ruin a marrage too.

Yeah, it did suck. I couldn't watch the whole thing either.

As for the thread topic, I'll come back to that later. Thinking about it right now makes my head hurt.

first of all, marriage free generations happened thousands of years ago so you were born too late to see it.
If some how we ever had a child free generation, that would be the end of that generation as we need to reproduce to go on. It probably won't ever happen.

Divorces happened because people weren't really in love. The break up would have happened with or without a marriage. Marriage isn't the problem. people are. also, kids don't ruin marriages parents do. Someone who has no idea of what up and down is not only harmless to you but more of a danger to themselves than to anything else. Ultimately, marriage is for financial purposes. It has nothing to do with anything else.

    okay folks.

i'm glad to see that some of you have a sense of humor. but it would be nice to have some more thoughtful comments being that some men and women here are parents.

but i guess that is too much to ask.

okay being that i began this thread. it should be deleted since as others have said it has been discussed already and any new threads on the subject will not be taken seriously and i guess i should INSULT others or discuss something x-rated or controversial here because i see that those threads are the ones that get serious discussion.

i suppose i should read thru the 100+ threads here and add a line to one of them instead of expect the many intelligent people here to read, understand where i am coming from and actually care too.

i see that this is too much to ask.

    however i leave with this

Weeeeeeelllll on one hand, if you're ugly, uneducated, and broke, I can see marriage as an option...

On the other hand WHEN IT WORKS WITH THE RIGHT WOMAN, a marriage can be a nurturing, affirming, healthy, powerful partnership...

The key is, of course, finding that right woman.

Personally Marriage did not enhance or enrich my relationship with my Wife and children in anyway...My Wife says she feels that it made us closer lol. We both have absolutely no religious connections.

I will say that being "Married" especially with children have a whole lot of people looking at you in a positive light. Aw man and your black too, people look at you with tremendous amount of respect.

Celebrating 7 years this year. :smt050

BTW "love" only plays a small part in keep a relationship/marriage going. Don't believe them fairy tales.
