I think I have an account on there, but I rarely use it. There's another site where you can listen to music from independent artists from all genres. I'll have to find it to see if it's still active. SoundClick I think is the name.
ooo might have to check that out. I use to just use Pandora but once I saw last.fm had.... Artist/song pages where you can leave comments. Recommended music. Ways to find users with similar music and other stuff I decided to switch there. Plus some of my online friends already had it. http://www.last.fm/user/BlackMagicM66
You can actually download their music and put them into your computer documents through SoundClick. I mainly browsed around classical music and orchestrated areas. I came across this one person, Jeremy Robson, and he's a magnificent composer. Mahler-esque, if you will.
I didn't start actively using it until about 2 weeks ago. Plus 99% of the time I listen to music it's not on my laptop. I'm starting to use it more though. As far as John Cale I loved his covers of "Hallelujah" and "Heartbreak Hotel", but I haven't listened to his solo stuff yet. I plan to soon
You can "scrobble" your ipod and then there are some audiophiles who scrobble analog. I'm not that intense, though I plan to set that up in the near future, so none of my vinyl plays will go unarchived.
I've been on Last.FM for a few years now. I love it, but don't use it as much as i used to. I only got pandora maybe 6 months ago and have only used it once or twice..
