I have a feeling that globalization is turning most of the cities where people are fleeing from into world cities. This means that the brightest and the smartest head for jobs that require a high degree of education, and creativity. And this in turn creates centers of innovation in return and centers where there is a kind of synergy that feeds everything else.

With the global crisis and the collapse of auto industries. Many cities have become waste lands. Cities that were built on the formula of industrial cities.Now that information technology has made it easier for jobs to be dispersed. People can now work remotely and internet connectivity has becomes ubiquitous in every nook and cranny of the states.

The major cities would still draw skilled immigrants for jobs that address the reality of modern times. I know in the past couple of years, and New York has some gentrifying neigbourhoods, where the young upwardly mobile class are making decisions that factors in nightlife, promixity to sushi bars, reading clubs, and well developed financial centers. In this sense, you expect costs of housing to go up, and most folks would now have to migrate to areas where houses are less costly and easier to purchase.

If the proportion of blacks are moving back to the South, it holds true that the reverse migration has more to do with more economic opportunities, yet the quality of life mentioned has little to do with earning power, or household income, but more about qualitative factors that means more bang for the dollar and psychological factors like family, going back home, and all that.
