I have mixed feelings about this. The spin on it will be bravery, but it's closer to stupidity to me.

Obviously it's in keeping with good journalism to gather facts directly from the source, but given what happened to several journalists in the lead up to Mubarak stepping down, why are you in the streets waiting to be the next victim of violence?

After assaults on Christiane Amanpour and especially Anderson Cooper, reporters were on notice that protesters or Mubarak supporters were out for blood. The fact that some Egyptians are pissed that Mubarak had western support for 30 years made it even worse. Not smart at all.

    Anderson Cooper's beatdown.

Satyr...it's business. They want to make sure they get all the coverage needed so their stations could get the proper viewership. To be honest, the reporters (save Anderson Cooper) don't have too much power or control, so the HQ basically told them to "GET THE STORY" without thinking about the risks involved.

It's a hard job, but you have to give them credit for getting the story out. Can't get that much attention when recording from a distance.

I feel great sadness for anyone who has been violated in such a way, my thoughts & prayers are with her

I read that and my heart hurt for her. Many reporters are reporters because they're passionate about what they do. How else would you get reporters in the field (it's less to do with HQ saying to go and more to do with them saying 'SEND ME!!').

That woman was just doing something she loved, and to have that happen? Gosh. It's just...there are no words.

I dont see the stupidity in it when Im sure they know full well what the risks were.... They put their lives at risk to report on this. Same as for the protesters - they all put their lives at risk for something they believe in. How may Egyptian women were assaulted while protesting against Mubarak??? Is that reported???
Many payed a price, over 1000 are dead.. but Mubarak is gone.
Nobody went into this with their eyes shut.

I salute the reporter that put their lives at risk to keep the eye of the world on this - Its was vital that reporters were there and unfortunately, some pay for it - but I believe they know the risks.. Some just put their own safety second to a cause they believe in. She was one of them. My heart goes out to her and her family - as it does for anybody else who payed a price in this fight. Of course there would be a price to pay.. anybody knows that. Its unfortunate, but there is no way around it.. Should we just close our eyes and let people get slaughtered??
Sometimes people do make a bigger decision that is beyond their own safety.. such as the women and men that lost their lives or got assualted during this protest. I salute them all, without them, this would not had happened.

If the eye of the world is not there - as it is in Iran at the moment, much worse events will and does happen..... Its a vital part of the process...
Sure, there is the aspect of viewers and money.. but the bigger picture is not that, but peoples sacrifice to get the story out and in the process somewhat protect the opponents.

The only stupidity is this fool and his posts. A woman who's doing her job gets raped and he says it borders on stupidity? Since when has it become cool to accuse a rape victim of stupidity?

This moron should just stick to making dick threads.

She had no business over there, along with all female journalists.

Egypt is a muslim country. Muslim men over there do not associate with women unless they are family. Men and women do not associate in public.

Egypt, just like other muslim countries, are like prisons without bars.

You put a attractive blonde female reporter out in a country where there is no govt and there is anarchy.....what do you think is gonna happen?

You have Egypt mistaken for Saudi Arabia. Yes, it's an Islamic nation but they're not hard-liners for the most part. You can't just look at the Muslim Brotherhood and conclude the entire population consists of the likes. It's a modern society, more like Turkey.

If that's the case Egyptians don't belong in the US or any non-muslim country.

I know it is wrong but I lol'ed when anderson got hit and I actually like anderson.

edit: after watching more footage, I thought that made no sense the way that guy punched anderson.

I was reminded of comment about the L.A. riot. A man said what does stealing a big screen tv have to do with injustice.
In this case, what does punching anderson cooper have to do with getting a democracy? That was just senseless.

I take a more nuanced position on this, because female reporters have covered the Middle East and North Africa on the ground before with little to no threat of physical violence.

My problem is that Logan went out there days after other reporters were the primary target of violence. She had a security detail but it was obviously unequal to the task of keeping her safe from a crowd that was angry at western reporters.

You didn't have a problem with this part of Blackbull's thread:

"She had no business over there, along with all female journalists"

    Hmmmmm..

    I wonder why?

Seems like Muslims can do know wrong in the minds of certain folk.

Hmmm all you want but I somehow didn't notice that. I like Lara Logan. And yes, that's probably even a dumber statement than what he said about Egypt.

While I'm at it, I grew up around muslims, dated some. So no, I won't paint all muslims with the same brush. Just like I won't generalize, yes, Mexicans. Arabs and Indians, whites too. But now I'm speaking foreign to you. What can I say, I'm a coon and a sambo.

I just some how think people can report the news without being beaten or raped.

People really shouldn't place themselves in that situation. That is where the stupid part comes in. Sure, people may want to report on an active volcano but how many are in that volcano when it is erupting! Same case here. You have to put your safety above reporting. Placing yourself in a dangerous scenario(despite the technology of things such as zooming in) is not a smart action.

From what I read, they beat and sexually assaulted her thinking that she was a jew. My advice is that anyone who doesn't look Egyptian should stay the fuck out of there until it is over.
