Awww come on...if you liked him before, why allow his political affiliation or support change? I mean you all love Denzel and he's a Republican. Although...he did voted for Obama in '08.
First of all I never liked Fiddy, he's one of those cats who are the problem not the solution, IMO, so peeps can rip his whole catalog for all I care. Second I never knew Denzel voted Republican until now, quite frankly, but he had sense enough to get on the right side of history when it counted unlike many house negroes in 2008.
I never cared for him either. But I agree with your sentiments. Well, he's a registered Republican, but even Dr. King was one and broke party lines. Since then...especially within midterms who do you think Denzel voted for in his hometown?
Upon what evidence are you claiming that Denzel Washington is a Republican? --- The two major parties have not shown an ideological consistency over the last 150 years. Some Republicans today like to trumpet the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Indeed he was the first Republican elected to the presidency, but that was when the current alignment of the parties was reversed. The Republican Party was the party of the industrialized North, and the Democratic party was the party of the agrarian and Jim Crow era South. LBJ's signage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 completely reconfigured that alignment.
Well, first and foremost, he never outright mentioned his political affiliation, but some perhaps he did an interview where he indirectly mentioned his political affiliation (though not out right). Also, he's not one to be outspoken about where he stands politically. He rather let people know him as an actor than some person they can induct as a political lovechild. It's highly likely given some interviews, he is a Republican by brand. And secondly, the political alignments first noticed a small shift during the FDR years thanks to his "New Deal" program, which actually benefited the poor working class, especially blacks at the time. That's when it started taking root, but it accelerated during LBJ's time signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And lastly, regardless of their political affiliation, does that mean we have to alienate them now?
Can you provide a link to at least one interview in which Denzel alludes to being a Republican? Alienate who?
I really can't give you an interview, except the ACTUAL INTERVIEW on Dateline which hints a little something on, not just Washington, but generally conservative popular actors in Hollywood - they don't want to divulge their views knowingly that they may not get really good roles. Plus there was a CNN interview with an actress in Hollywood who is conservative and discussed how conservatives in Hollywood don't really talk about their politics that much because it can hurt their chances getting better roles. Discrimination if you will. I'd say that it's a good cue to take notice. Lastly, and this is a bit tricky...he does belong to COGIC - Church of God in Christ and it's generally conservative by nature. P.S. You could check and see whether there are voting records in his hometown relating to numerous elections and his political affiliation could be divulged from there.
At no point in that interview is it mentioned what political parties Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, or Jonathan Demme belong to. Yes, I'm familiar with the COGIC. I live not far from it and pass it frequently on my way to the Crenshaw District, the epicenter of black Los Angeles. Magic Johnson and Samuel Jackson are also members of the church, does that make them Republicans as well?
I wouldn't assume that much. But as I've stated, but the possibility could be there. And that could very well be true under the assumption that pretty much the majority of conservatives in Hollywood who identify themselves as Republican don't really speak on politics much, on the account that they're less likely to acquire big roles. I say that's a fair statement. And considering that you live in California, when Denzel Washington does arrive there for another movie shoot, you can interview him and ask him yourself. Now, if he responds indirectly, it normally means he's not part of the general public's perception when it comes to blacks in Hollywood.
LOL! The complete over-reaction to a celebrity's party affiliation. In the grand scheme of things, who cares?? And contrary to what Democrats want everyone to think, the Republican party is NOT made up of only Sarah Palins. Republicans and Democrats need to stop being so against each other and work with each other. That's the only way change will happen in this country.
I never looked at it that way, personally. But there are people who liken themselves to that equation.
I know, that's why I said it. ;-) I consider myself an Independent. I hold both Democratic and Republican views on different issues. I just feel it's better to keep an open mind. :smt023
To be frank...they're merely labels. When you think about it....all of us are Independents because we don't follow one simple ideology. It's just with me, I'd rather side with ones who represents my personal views more.
It has been long rumored Zel is a republican. I have not seen him claim he is but read it in many blogs. Has anyone seen his interview with katie Couric on NBC regarding fahrenheit 9/11 in Aug 2004, supposedly he said it in that heated argument with Couric. If somone has a link to the video would love to see that exchange.
That exchange never happened. http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/denzel.asp There isn't a shred of evidence to support the claim that Denzel Washington is a Democrat, Republican, or member of the Communist Party. That is the point I was trying to dialectically extract earlier.
