Esperanza Spalding Incurs Wrath Of Justin Bieber Fans After the 26-year-old jazz singer and bassist's name was announced on Sunday night, supporters of Bieber, a 16-year-old pop star with a loyal and mostly young female fan base, unleashed a slew of profanity-laced Twitter messages, some containing death threats. "I'm going to murder Esperanza Spalding," Twitter user LaurenSBelieber wrote. "WATCH OUT ESPERANZA SPALDING ..." Twitter user ItsLuisaBieber wrote. "BE CAREFUL CUS MORE THAN 7 MILLION GIRLS OUTHERE WANT TO KILL YOU, INCLUDING ME." Also, Spalding's Wikipedia page was vandalized with false facts following her win. The online encyclopedia is mostly written and edited by the public. "SHE IS (expletive) REATARD THAT NO ONE HAS HEARD OF SO (expletive) PLEASE DIE " one message read, while another simply said: "VIVA LA JUSTIN BIEBER!" Another revision read: She now has the 2011 Grammy for being the Best new Artist!. Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!" Spalding's middle name was alsofalsely listed as "Quesadilla." One user fired back, writing: "Bieber fans have recently hacked this page because they have nothing better to do with their lives." Bieber and Spalding have not commented on the matter but Bieber said on his Twitter page: "Of course I wanted to win. Its been & still is a dream to win a grammy. Was I upset...yes. But I was happy for her also. Someone said to me tonight its not your successes that define u but your failures. I lost..but I don't plan on this being my last chance." "I do this because I love it," he added. "And I do it for my family friends and fans who support me. I was grateful for the honor and this is just the beginning. Spalding said on her website that Bieber and the other nominees for Best New Artist - Drake, Florence + The Machine and Mumford & Sons - were all "outstanding musicians and a great testament to the diversity of music," adding: "I certainly did not expect to even be considered for that type of nomination. Me being a little old jazz musician and everything."
Esperanza Spalding...congratulations on your winning the Grammy. It still shows that there's still some air of hope for humanity. I heard some of her music before...and she's pretty good. As for the Bieber-maniacs...he lost because of you little cretins going crazy.
As popular as the kid may be right now, I still have yet to ever listen to a single Justin Bieber song or watch any videos. Some folks tell me that I'm not missing much either but who knows?
You ain't missing a damn thing. Unless you have a daughter in her early teens there's no reason to listen to Bieber's music. He will be gone as soon as his voice breaks. Just ask Jonas Brothers, they're like what happened?
thankfully, we'll only have to deal with the bieber for another 2 years or so, and then he'll disappear into the popstar's of yesteryear with tiffany, toni basil, limahl and right said fred
What karma said. But even some adult girls love this dude. Saw someone wearing a Justin Bieber t-shirt and there's a hole where his mouth is, exposing a bit of her cleavage.
Beiber, like others (e.g. Zac Efron, Jonas Brothers . . . Shaun Cassidy) before him, fulfills the designated Unthreatening White Boy role in American culture. Ironically he is there to prevent young white girls from embracing darker impulses in their sexual development, but these vitriolic attacks suggest that it doesn't always work out as planned. The fact that few people know who Arcade Fire are tells me all I need to know about the level of musical sophistication in the mind of the average Grammy Awards watching viewer. http://whoisarcadefire.tumblr.com/
How dare you suggest that Right Said Fred are part of the yesteryear group!! Fun fact:: The lead singer was called Richard (i think) not Fred, like you'd expect.
Limahl started out in this band. Just from this classic he deserves not to be tossed in the yesteryear pile. Right Said Fred still make records in Germany. They did some kind of World Cup anthem.
I envy your generation. Being a kid in the 90s sucked because I was part of the gangsta rap generation. It wasn't even cool to listen to straight R&B. When those fools were getting down with 2Pac or Dogg Pound, I was rocking out to Kaja, Duran Duran, Human League and Belinda Carslile (courtesy of VH1). Yeah, I'm hipper than the average young brah.
Finally somebody who can sing and has talent wins the grammy. She's extremely talented, real, and has a World Vision, and is not just a Pop Icon - she's special, and I'm glad she got this award!!! It sends a message to other great talents, I think - develop your Humanity and your Soul, too. If you added up all of the talent from Justin Bieber and all of that other crap people call music, you MIGHT just MIGHT get close to hers. Bieber is an industry package, geered toward teeny booper white girls. The Music Execs not stupid and Usher knew when he discovered him, it's all about the $$$$$$.
lmao....!!! look at you all chatting about kajagoogoo and limahl...!!! showing your age...and mine...!!! :smt045
