That's how it works now. A paid member can respond to any ad, and that person can then respond back to the paid member. The difference with the new software is that the mailboxes will be on-site. Which means both the sender and the recipient will have to come back to the site to read their messages. The advantage of this is that no personal email address is revealed until you choose to send it to the other person. The way it is now, once the first email is sent, all further communication is off-site. As far as separating the "raunch class" ... If you create a specific category for say, cuckolds, then you legitimize it and end up with even more of those ads. That said, there really aren't that many cuckold or adult ads in the personals -- go see for yourselves. It only appears that way because most dating sites ban them altogether. The search feature in the new software will also be infinitely better so you'll be able to do more specific searches and weed out (or select) "married" folks, etc.
I was on there for about a second. I don't really care for the personals on here (sorry Webs!) Maybe it will be better when he changes the software.
That's good to know! I signed up a loooong time ago, and I don't think that was not an option back then, before the new site redo. That feature should be promoted, or marketed a bit more aggressively.
I just perused the personals section for the first time ever and these are my thoughts exactly. The section is garbage and needs a major overhaul. I suspect majority of the profiles are fake anyway. I think it would be a great idea to delete the personals section altogether, add a $10 a month subscription fee to the forums, and a new hook ups sub forum.
I'm not paying for shit in 2011 when I can get hook-ups free. Plus post for free somewhere else dammit.
Hahaha, truth. The forum is for discussion, I know few of us including me (guilty as charged), made it a hook up spot on few occassions. But for most part it is a place where like minded ppl exchange ideas and share opinions and that should be free in this day and age.
My bad, typo I mean't $10 a year. The reality is in about 10 years many of your favorite forums will be using a subscription based pay to play platform. Don't be alarmed if it happens here.
It actually makes sense. It's gonna happen in 10 years, so why wait? $10/year over 10 years. By the time they start charging, you will have already paid $100. Way ahead of the game. Who's laughing now?
^^^ Since Unchosen has defined what the main purpose of the forum section of this site is about, just what would people be "paying to play" for exactly? If the personals section is the area were the money is being made for the site, then revamp that as a "hook-up" spot if need be and charge for participation same as it is now. Obviously you have no problem paying $10 a year to all of the various forums and messageboards that you frequent besides this one in order to, using your words " shot the breeze and speak my mind if I feel like it". Great way to spend your money. Wasting it on something you can do for free.
This. When it comes to this forum, I think the reason it's so successful as a place to converse is because there isn't the 'pressure' of personals hanging over our heads. We are all just here to chat...and sure, the occasional hook-up will probably happen- many of us travel, and many of us will meet up or have met up in the past...but you would have the same thing happen in pretty much any situation where men and women come together. If I wanted to spend money to hook up, I'd join one of those other crazy sites that are out there- but I don't. And I definitely wouldn't want to spend $10 just to tell off a couple of posters. Then again, it would be nice if there was some way to screen for trolls. Maybe some sort of nominal fee would keep those at bay. Who knows?
Yeah because running the forums comes at absolutely no cost. I have no problem supporting the forums I enjoy.
I'll ask this again: What are you paying for on a forum designed for chatting and expressing opinions? The right to do it? If you're looking to receive something from a site/forum such as possible hook-ups that's one thing to pay to support it if you are receiving what can be viewed as some type of service. Hence why you have the Personals Section. No one in their right mind would pay to chat and express opinons if they can do it for free. That whole freedom of speech thing and why trolls show up on sites just because. As DB stated in her post, "Troll Regulation" would be the only thing possibly gained, since trolls would basically be paying for the right to be assholes on a forum they picked to join if they are that stupid.
