That movie is hardly decent, but The Human Stain is a book by Phillip Roth. Roth is an excellent writer, the novel is good, but not his best work. The novel loosely references literary critic Anatole Broyard and was written a few years after his death. There was a bit of fanfare around that time in intellectual circles of his "passing" (Skip Gates wrote a few articles), his story of self identity is a bit more nuisanced, but the story of him choosing to be white to serve in the military really happened. How Roth knew this, I don't know. His daughter wrote a book a few years ago, which was a good read. None of this really has to do with Halle Berry, who is invoking racial issues to create subterfuge in her plot to keep her "quadroon" baby all to herself. Bit*h is crazy!!
xoxo- do you know if the movie is loosely based on some individual? Have you heard of a Dean of some undergrad school or law school some where in the east may be Ohio, who was passing and was found out in the 60s? I dont recall the whole thing but I remeber someone telling me back then, and the movie was suppose to reflect on that individual story. I have also heard John Calvin Coolidge, Us president 1923– 1929 was passing. BTW, I dont really give a rat's ass about Halle's acting or her all fucken issues. She is a garbage actress.
I say the book is based on Anatole Broyard. I checked wiki and they say the same http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Human_Stain The story you speak of sounds like that of Gregory Howard Williams, who wasn't told he was Black until he moved back to his hometown in Indiana. Williams has gone on to be a dean/president of a few colleges/universities. I recommend his bio as well.
You're half right. Some white folks hung onto his white half for dear life trying to relate to him. He is even a distant relative of Dick Cheney on his mother's side (they are from the same state). That he can claim some white heritage (and that he doesn't come from slave stock at all) helped him into the WH. Even now, if you frequent political blogs or Yahoo, the unwashed masses refer to him as a "half-white" guy, not half black. Of course if he was just a law professor from Hyde Park, he'd be 100% black as far as they're concerned.
I think peeps are finally starting to figure this out, even the BW who are so resistant to common sense. Funny when she was dating black dudes peeps took it on faith it was the men's fault!
Wow and all it took was being President for white people to acknowledge he's half white because God knows before that he was still that Harvard educated negro
But I'd bet you would start off your speech by saying "My old folks always tell me 'cockroach nuh business inna fowl fite' or if you're 'fired up and ready to go', you'd say 'pooyaka pooyaka :smt071 Di fuss wata hog pass him wash himself'" If I were one of those what do you call them people who advise political candidates (advisers/strategists) or what do you call them peoples who prepare the thing (speech writers) for you to read in front of a crowd from one of those glassy thingy (TelePrompTers), I'd definitely advise you to play the race card if it appears to be of benefit to you.
Hello Pot. Seriously, where do you get off accusing various BM on this site that IF they don't find certain BW women attractive, it automatically equates to hating their Blackness. Do WM who date BW yet wont date WW...hate their 'Whiteness'? Do we WW on here who prefer Black men, hate ourselves?? Because that's what you are saying. Using my own example, I am Greek, and I can tell you the MAJORITY of Greek men are spoiled, sexist and hardheaded - because they are raised that way by their doting Greek mothers!(encouraged no less by a Greek society that perpetuates this arrogance.) Yet, I could never be MORE proud of BEING Greek, but BEING Greek isn't defined by my 'loving Greek men' and if I don't happen to, well then I must be a sellout, traitor, self hating Greek woman. Jesus Goodlove, I can LOVE BLACK MEN, and NOT want a Greek man (ie: be mainly attracted to them or their behavior)....and STILL be a Proud Greek. Do you really think that when a BM expresses personal disdain or a non-preference for BW, that it means he obviously must hate EVERY BLACK WOMAN?? Or by default, himself?? GTFOH. Don't be an idiot.
