He says my white mother, my white grandmother something like that. Let me find that one I know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWe7wTVbLUU Alot of white people are just ignorant. They fear the unknown. It was passed down generation after generation black people were this, this, and that. They just failed to get outside their little box and discover for themselves it's all a load of shit they were feed. The believe it and don't even know why. Hearing the man was raised by a white mother and a white grandmother just like themselves that has the same values as they do that they have been to ignorant to believe that black folks have too does in fact gives some of these people comfort. Ofcourse I'm not saying this is always the case cause it certainly isn't. There is still lots of racist that don't care. Hell there is some that would probley still hang me if I told them I too have black ancestors. And they'd damn sure hang my ass for being with black men having mixed babies.
Dre, Bama used it, you cant blame him, he is a politician and that is the name of the game. You got to do what you go to do. The same way Romney stated he was an avid hunter to garner votes from southern folks (he never hunted b4, went to hunting trip once)
Another lesson, since someone mentioned the Packers, I dont really care for them but you got to admire Lombardi back in the sixties faught injustice for his blk players. " If you cant accomodate all of us but only some of us, then the hell with you, we're going somewhere". He changed the views of local diners, shopping centers and most business owners.
Great posts guys. Before my son was born, it amazed me the number of family members & "well meaning" people who expressed the hope that my son would be able to "pass". There is no way in hell my beautiful baby could "pass". Yes, I raised him & I'm white, but that shit isn't going to impress anybody or make one bit of difference in how people see him.
I hear you fam. I just have a hard time figuring out who they were trying to appeal to with that kind of speech. Those who were nervous about him being black weren't going to look at his white family and suddenly think he's ok. If being a Harvard law professor didn't do that I doubt his white family would do that. The voters who voted for him just wanted a change and were fed up with how badly the Republican party fucked everything up. The saw McCain as more of the same and Palin was the worst idea for a running mate which put him over the top. I really doubt the voters that voted for him cared about his white upbringing they were just tired of the right fucking everything up.
yeah, palin fucked up the program for mccain. that was a bad bad choice. Im just trying to figure why they are still on her wagon.
Dre, I agree with most of you pts, ppl who were nervous about him being black were not going to vote for him based on one speech. The speech is just a poltical tactic. Poltics is dirty you got to do what you got to do. BTW, Bama was not a law prof @ Harv.... he was @ University of Chicago, tho both respected schools one is Ivy and the other is just a top tier,
Fair enough. I just have a hard time seeing who that was gonna appeal to. Its like me going to prison and telling dudes I hung out in the bronx when I was a teenager. They're gonna take one look at my nerdy ass and say so the fuck what. What people see you as is all that matters to them and I don't get what political strategist would think that would be smart.
