You are so right. The only thing that would keep me from dancing if I was on stage with Prince would be if I passed out from the excitement of being there. :smt003

    Two things:

    1. That was so hilarious!

    2. He's still living under Michael Jackson's shadow even after his death.

I don't think so. Michael was great, but Prince isn't under anybody's shadow.

At least Prince is still alive and healthy. MJ is six feet under.

Prince is a musical genius. He can play more than 14 musical instruments or something like that. In fact there are tons of ppl who think Prince is much more talented than Jackson.

I guess that's true. Based on their musical styles, MJ was more worldly and catered to a wide audience whereas Prince took his musical style and basically hit a certain base - one of a sexual nature.

That's irrelevant when MJ's CDs still sell at a higher pace.

Well, talent can come in many forms. I've heard that Prince is really versatile with music instruments and that's really good. However, the biggest criteria would have to be who generated greater impact, not just for an audience, but how it changed the times. That has to be factored in as well when defining talent.

You're a fool. Prince has always owned Micheal Jackson.

And Kim is possibly the most uninteresting person in the world.

How exactly? Has he broken a lot of barriers and reached a worldwide audience? No. Why? While he's talented, he lacked persuasive means to impact a generation.

And secondly, I never mentioned Kardashian at all, so where in the hell did that come from?

He is a musical genius. I love Michael Jackson, but he doesn't even come close to Prince IMO.

Obviously you don't know much about Prince's music. Yes, some of his music is sexual; Prince is highly sexual person, but if you think that's all he's done, then you have no clue.

CD sales & popularity mean nothing when it comes to talent.

Look at the popularity of some of the "artists" out there...idiots like Drake & Lil Wayne & other wanna be artists are popular, but it's not based on talent.

Prince has had a huge impact on music, & there is no one like him.

I'm not implying he's strictly sexual in his music. Just the majority. I do recall years ago, when I first discovered the computer and AOL Instant Messaging, one individual really took a strong fascination in him and his music and apparently, he's also someone who creates "feel good" music to give people some sense of hope, when she contemplated suicide in particular. It's always good to produce music like that for an audience.

And yet, MJ pretty much did that as well, and reached out to a worldwide audience. However, his music ranged from so many different facets.

And I do agree that CD sales and popularity really have nothing to do with talent. But in light of people like Michael Jackson, one shouldn't really compare him to people like Drake and Lil' Wayne. They're horrendous examples of modern day music, but they are big business people, which is a strong asset behind them.

And lastly, I am going to challenge you on the last bit regarding his impact in the music business. What exactly has he done that impacted the music industry, either as a revolution or an evolution? And this should be based more on what critics and fans alike can agree upon.

As someone who grew up with both, Micheal Jackson never had the musical skills (composition, instrument mastery) that you see in Prince. Prince is a self-contained musician, meaning that does not have to rely on producers like Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, or Teddy Riley to be a significant part of the music world.

For future reference, here is your litmus test:

Whenever you see a contemporary musician, ask yourself this.

During the height of the Classical/Romantic era, would this person be considered a musician or merely a performer?

With regard to Prince, he would be foremost considered a musician whereas Micheal would only be a performer. MJ's compositional skills were negligible; he never wrote anything half as good as Adore or Computer Blue. It's possible that he knew how to play instruments, but I never saw it.

Other modern musical figures who meet that criterion are Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis.

Actual musicians are much rarer than musical performers.
