Maybe to some folks it does, but it doesn't to me. I saw people when I watched the commercial; not a particular race of people in the commercial.

Like I said. I don't care either way, but it is material if we are going to have a discussion on how we, or others might interpret it, irregardless of Pepsi's intentions.

In this instance, offended Black women would claim many of us among the haters, but I'm not a BW, so I don't know how I would take this; your attitude would be a good one to have.

I imagine there are other scenarios in which the changing the race of the individuals would create a different connotation for you.

Certainly a more extreme change would be Gender, as in a man pushing a woman's face down.

Wow, there are sites with people starting boycotts and petitions about this stuff..

It was a commerical! I'm sure there are many times when casting plays a part in marketing to certain demographics, perspective of story, etc. but seriously, it was a commerical. It was the Superbowl, the time of year for extreme crazy commercials that are usually controversial. I don't get it...

Who knows, maybe I would feel differently if there was a car commerical with a black guy deemed enemy of the state, in a prison uniform, with a doo-rag on and a white woman bound and gag in his back seat with the cops chasing him. But I have yet to see that, so until it gets that bad or extreme, I will laugh and enjoy it for what it was and sleep good tonight knowing that I saw the Captain America teaser trailer which is mostly why I watched the Superbowl anyway lol

I still don't think there's anything to discuss.

My attitude is conducive to my happiness, & I won't let someone try to make me miserable just because they are.

All I saw was a fairly typical husband/wife scenario with a comedic twist to it. I'd see the same thing if the couple was a white, asian, mexican, interracial, etc.

    :smt038

When it boils down to it, if they choose to be pissed, that's their problem.

I'm not part of the "Some" so have no real interest in discussing what I view as a non-issue. Anyone who sees this as a legit issue then please feel free to discuss at your leisure.

So that makes it ok, just cause it's the status quo???

We seem to be getting a lot of opinions out of people who feel it isn't worth their time of day to worry about such a topic. Isn't that odd...

There are people that feel this is being blown out of proportion, but to me, this was a BLATANT shot at IR relationships AND Black Women, at the same time. I never liked Pepsi in the first place, so no boycott needed, but I really think everyone needs to think how much work goes into making a SuperBowl ad, and how many people passed on this idea, with the presented casting, as perfectly alright. You telling me a bunch of highly paid ad execs, PLUS the Pepsi execs never saw a Possible
issue with this ad? You must be smokin some GOOD shit....:smt033

Xoxo, I did start a different thread in the In The News section, prior to my being pointed toward this thread. As this one was first, the two threads , should be merged onto this one.

This whole "some" business is confusing. In regards to this post

I said some people, like myself and others on this thread, or wherever, are expecting Black women to catch a fit.

    and then you said:

and I'm not sure what you meant by some in this instance, I guessed the some wasn't the some of the people that were expecting Black women to catch a fit, rather those who might be trying to stir up shit like Al Sharpton....

and then I said I'm expecting a good portion of Black women to be pissed and you replied some.

So now, between us we have
m -some people are expecting Black women to catch a fit
u - some people who always stir up shit
u - some Black women will be pissed

The legitimacy of the issue being anti-Black woman is not something you have to discuss. Whatever one thinks in that regards, the reaction of some Black women is discussion worthy in it's own right. Now, with regards to the commercial being anti-BW, I don't think that it is or should be protested, but I believe it played upon negative stereotypes of BW all the same.

Yeah, I'm smoking some good shit because I don't see what you saw in this blantantly destructive commerical that's going to fuck up my soon to be fourteen year interracial marriage that I've had going with all the REAL Interracial issues that I see and deal with on a the regular or any other interracial relationships period. But that's just my silly ignorant fucking black ass though....

    I agree.

Surely but I'm still amused/interested at this point.
