LOL we go through this period where you and I agree and then we find ourselves on the opposition sides of the fence, in the past 25 years the civilian work force has continued to grew. From recruiting, civilians being hired to find people to fill its ranks, to more and more civilians being hired to augment garrison forces, to even on the ground combat, security and forward forces. I interview more than two people this week for two new positions that were normally held by Uniformed member. In fact the one that we decided to hire will have to leave the service to take the job.

...add to that the draw down that has been ordered by President Obama and the mandate that the army reduce by 50,000 people.

There are no guarantees in any employment. But if work up tomorrow jobless, i have still made the right choices that will ensure my need to struggle will be very very minimal.

I think I didn't elaborate enough my bad fam. I meant the military as an industrial complex rarely if ever "lays" anyone off. Our military budget is more than every other industrialied country combined. Wars like we have in Iraq could almost totally pay for healthcare. I'm notknocking the military bro I totally respect what you do all I'm saying there seems to be way more job security there than most fields because when push comes to shove we won't outsource military work to other countries like China and India and endanger our national security.

Agreed. Personally I find women that happen to be highly educated boring and lack great sense of humor,,,, I also cant stand their elitist attitude towards education especially my Ivy league folks. Anyhoo, for whatever reason I find grade school teachers and counselors sweet as hell.

    Truth.

wooo, boy are you guys wrong. Ignorance (not as an insult but rather meaning uniformed and un-learned) But I think many american believe as you do. Are VERY large amount that they spend on military is enjoyed mostly be the civilian work force. So yes, while military spending will remain high a good amount of money spent on the military towards civilians.

Currently there are 1.4 uniformed members (another 1.5 million in reserve; however over half of that number is employed by the States).

Conversely the DoD has over 3 million civilian employees at an amount of 419.3 Billion dollars, and another 1 million in civilian contractors. For every one Soldier, Sailor and Marine, there are 4 civilians that are hired in support (by whatever means)

this has been your United States Military Education.

    The more you know lol

We supposedly have a military of about 50 million. Where are those people?

50 million people!? no way. LOL.. The largest our military has ever been was under Ronald Reagan and it was never 50 million people. Man that's over 16% of the entire population of the United States. Hell that's more people than the entire African-American race.

Less than 1% of the population currently serves in Uniform, and less than 1% of 1% has ever served in the United States Armed forces.

Currently China, has the worlds largest military with over 1,700,000 next is India, North and South Korea and Pakistan. Currently the United States has the 6th largest military on earth, and before 2003 Iraq actually had a larger military than the united States. The US spends the most because we have the most active military. The military is currently deployed in over 297 places outside of the United States.

I've been doing this almost 20 years and I'm currently a Human Resources Instructor...this is one subject I have a pretty good handle on.

I don't get how that's not seen as aggressive as hell. You mean to tell me out of a billion people China can't even get 1 percent of the citizens to sign up for the armed forces? Wow. At least there's one area where they're slackers lol.

LOL....weeeeeeeeeeeeelll not really. While we have a million half currently serving, and a million half in reserve. Every able bodies male in China must do military service.

That's 300,000,000 men and 200,000,000 females and every year they have new fresh recruits 10,000,000 men, and 9,000,00 women. Everyone has to serve in the military except college students, and even they must attend a 4 week military training program before they graduate.

Now all that being said, China's military structure prevents it from (force on force) ever being able to fight against the United States. China's military is lead from the top down and they do not have the use of Non-Commissioned Officers as we do in the United States, and currently the United States has the most experienced military on the face of this earth.

    HOOOOAH!

AND requiring that a person you date meet a certain intellectual standard, to me, is more reasonable than requiring them to be of a certain skin color.

"For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use being anything else" – Winston Churchill

You have something in common with Winston Churchill then.:)

Being an optimist is waking up and believing tomorrow will be a better day, or the next, or the next .... and so life goes on. I guess that is one of the reasons many folks push on with their lives. It makes sense to be optimistic and very healthy too, another good reason soak oneself in optimism. Life is short, not living it to the fullest is not an option.

    HUGE Co-SIGN

Of course intelligence isn't being able to spell, so spelling doesn't denote intelligence

    BUT

    Spelling denotes culture
A degree doesn't necessary mean that you can spell (unfortunately)
A degree doesn't necessarily mean you are cultured.

Saty, help me out with the name of this philosopher that was about the 3 lines I wrote? I have a lapsus. haha.

Germany's problem wasn't the experience of its fighting force, but rather the error its planning. Hitler took total control of the miltary. After it was all said and done, Germany's problem (as well as Japan's) was moving too quickly with Hitler trying to grab more land this is forces could handle.
