A little confused here, to be grown is to think Jay-Z is a good rapper because of his "swag" and the amount of money he makes? (2 things that have nothing to do with rap skills)

No wait, is it to think that Bob Dylan wasn't an important musician.(Even though any major publication from Times to Rollingstone to VH1 agrees)

Dylan>Eminen.....lol at you telling me to listen to Dylan like it's an insult.

eh..if that's what grown ups do I'll stay a kid any day of the week.

Dylan got his style from Woody Guthrie.

Notorious B.I.G(mentioned by some earlier in this thread) got his style from Scarface.
The Rolling Stones were influenced by little known Muddy Waters.

Doesn't matter where a person gets their style or influence from if they're able to take it to the next level.

Woody Guthrie doesn't have any Bringing it all back home's or Highway 61's...

He he got his style from him but he far surpassed him.

There's a difference in a white man copying a black man (which is theft) as opposed to a black man copying another black man (which is.....)...
What am I trying to say here? Does it even make sense?
Let me think about it for a minute. Until then, scratch what I just said.

LOL...that's exactly what happened halfway down my post.

I don't care who Bob Dylan was influenced by, I'm a fan of his music. If he gives the person he was influenced by credits, that's great. If he doesn't, I don't think that makes him any less talented. I have Dylan's songs the most on my iPod by far than by any other artist.

Same goes for Biggie. I don't care if he was influenced by Scarface, though I like Scarface too. Biggie's one of my top 3 favorite rappers.

Someone has to be influenced by somebody or something at some point, most of the time.

really dude ? really ? are you saying that rap is sill in the golden age where the creativity is extremely diverse and the lyrics are just so well inlcine that you can turn the music off and just enjoy the words like you would be able to do back in the day ?

You're completely wrong on this issue. Creative people are simply divergent thinkers, not extraterrestrials.

THE GOLDEN AGE...LOL why people still refer to the GOLDEN AGE. That shit is dead and gone.

The golden age wasn't that Golden you know. Southern rap didn't suck as much back then compared to now. The South is responsible for the majority of the bullshit ring tone raps. And there are some wack white-rappers from the south contributing as well.

Anyway this topic is a dead horse and I'm done with it.
