I really wanted to go to the movies tonight but couldn't find anyone to go with me :smt022 I NEED to see Black Swan SOON!
I feel your pain, Whiks. I never can find anyone to go with me, so I seldom go to the movies. I usually have wait until it's out on dvd.
I watched "The Social Network" tonight. Great flick. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. I went into watching it, hating the movie. It turned me. LOL. I predict it will win Best Picture at the Oscars, if nothing more than because it's fast-paced (like today's society) and it's contemporary. Though I haven't seen "True Grit" or "The King's Speech" yet. It is well-written. It's well-acted. I'm not sure it's a movie I'd own or watch again anytime soon, but it hooked me whilst I watched it.
Christopher Nolan is the biggest snub of them all: http://oscars.movies.yahoo.com/blog/85-top-5-oscar-nomination-mysteries-solved?nc
the last movie i saw at the cinema's was 'the lovely bones'. can't say i know anything about any of the movies that have been nominated
I saw "True Grit" today. Great film, and that girl was amazing! The acting was superb. But would you expect anything less from Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon? I was going to see "The King's Speech" tomorrow, but have since decided that laying in bed sleeping and/or relaxing is preferable to getting up and making it to see a 10:25 a.m. film. LOL. I'll see "The King's Speech" in 2 weeks.
I love Peter Jackson, but I didn't care for the book, so I didn't see the movie. It didn't get great reviews either. How was it?
never read the book so i didn't really know what i was in for. i found the whole movie disturbing & at times a little confusing when she was between worlds etc.
Dark Knight in no way got snubbed... It's kinda blown out of proportion the idea of people being snubbed. The fact they are now nominated 10 flicks for best picture is admirable, but imagine if they did that for every category? 5 noms is enough, especially considering the Academy and MPAA are totally rigged from the beginning. Anyone see the documentary "This film is not yet Rated?" It would blow your quote right out of the water.
My oscar situation: Movies seen: Inception Black Swan The Social Network My particular interests for categories are Cinematography, Directing and Original Score, as well as the usual major categories. For those not aware of the nominees: Cinematography * “Black Swan” Matthew Libatique * “Inception” Wally Pfister * “The King's Speech” Danny Cohen * “The Social Network” Jeff Cronenweth * “True Grit” Roger Deakins Directing * “Black Swan” Darren Aronofsky * “The Fighter” David O. Russell * “The King's Speech” Tom Hooper * “The Social Network” David Fincher * “True Grit” Joel Coen and Ethan Coen Music (Original Score) * “How to Train Your Dragon” John Powell * “Inception” Hans Zimmer * “The King's Speech” Alexandre Desplat * “127 Hours” A.R. Rahman * “The Social Network” Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross So any of the movies on those lists I am currently making an effort to see. I also enjoy going to Oscars.org and watching the Animated and Feature shorts, so I have an opinion of those films when those categories come around. I'm a fan of film, and I have been in a few shorts myself, so I have an understanding of the work involved in their production. Those people that do those are just as honorable as any of the major studio releases, so I try to give them the credit they are due. Check em out, they are usually pretty good.
I thought True Grit was incredibly overrated. I almost fell asleep twice. The girl was a good actor but the storyline was ridiculous to me. If that had been the old west they would have just shot her taken her money. She was way too bossy and annoying. Now if you want to see a really good western, go check out the Good The Bad and The Ugly. I guarantee after you see that you'll see how much True Grit sucked.
