I won't be seeing The Green Hornet either. The trailers make it look like a bad movie and the reviews haven't helped matters. I do want to see The Green Lantern though! You're right about commercial talent. Oscar doesn't like that type of talent, usually. I wanted to see A Single Man. I may have to get it. I like Colin Firth as an actor, I'm just not excited about the subject matter of The King's Speech. I saw The Queen when it was up for Best Picture and left the theater shaking my head at how that movie got nominated. As I did when I saw The Reader (snooze fest) and Atonement. But, I digress, I'm afraid The King's Speech is going to be another The Queen.
Yes, I agree that it's not a big enough movie to get Oscar's attention, but he claims that Ryan Reynolds did an unbelievable job in that movie and it was a great movie. I have yet to see it.
Green Lantern looks awful. But I'll give it a chance. Thor looks much better, esp. in 3D. Yeah, check Single Man. It's like a gay MadMen. Cool, languid pace. Great camera work. DP killed it.
You have to admit that it looks loads better than The Green Hornet though. LOL. LOL @ gay Mad Men. Okay, I'll check it out. I have a lot of movies to watch. Good thing I'm finally caught up with The Vampire Diaries. :smt042
I dunno, they're both trainwrecks to me. As a woman I'm sure you're all about Ryan's abs so it doesn't matter if the FX or anything actually look good, or Ryan doesn't look like Hal Jordan from the comics. But yeah check A Single Man, you'll appreciate it as a real film person. Tom Ford (the director) killed it. For the record the only Oscar flick I've seen is Inception. I've got Social Network in my queue.
I've only seen Black Swan, Inception and Toy Story 3. I'll likely see True Grit this weekend, maybe The Social Network. I also want to see Blue Valentine, though it isn't up for Best Pic. And yes, Ryan's abs do help. :smt003
LOL! No, because Black Swan has lesbianism in it and it's a bit of a horror type flick. Okay, horror might be pushing it, but it's not a movie strictly about ballet. :smt023
I saw the fighter and was pretty underwhelmed. Didn't have an impact on me. Black Swan is next on my "to see" list. Love the Social Network. I thought it was really well done and if FB is funding its promotion then they're freakin' genious
Don't feel bad. The only one of these Golden Globe/Oscar hopefuls I've seen is Inception. Most of these flicks aren't worthy of a big-screen cinema experience, I can see them either at a discount house or a rental.
I haven't seen Inception yet... but just going on which types of movies I generally prefer, I think Social Network would be more my thing. But how do you compare two entirely different movies like that to say which is better? There's too many different factors at play.
LOL! Me too! I'm happy to see others are joining the discussion. I'm hoping to see True Grit and The Social Network and maybe The Fighter this weekend. Though I should probably just suck it up and go see The King's Speech.
