I saw this on my friend's Facebook page and found it hilarious and thought it was good to add to the beginning of this thread:

I used to get upset about it, too. But I've since realized that it makes the Oscar season no fun. So, I let it go, and I enjoy seeing the movies up for Best Picture and trying to figure out who will win versus who I think should win.

Insert lazy, cynical, jaded, "I hate the Oscars, spoiled, Hollyweird overpaid actors, think they're so important, it's all political, self-congratulation, all these movies suck, ____________________is overrated, blah blah blah" comments here:

Haven't seen the Social Network but can't imagine it being better than Inception unless there's a scene where Zuckerberg floats around in zero gravity.

One conspiracy theory says Facebook itself is throwing big dough around behind the scenes to hype the movie through the roof.

I can see The King's Speech getting 12 noms though, The Academy loves high-tone English shit (Shakespeare in Love, helloooo). Firth will prob be the only winner, though. Him and the costumer.

I just love that you used the word "splendid" in a sentence. It figures you're not American. :smt049

Oh I wished the Oscar people hired Ricky Gervais instead of the Golden Globes. He would pop a lot of ego balloons and make it interesting. One thing I hate about the Oscar ceremonies are the removal of the montage of the films of the actor who wins a special Oscar for lifetime achievement. Also, the singing of the obit montage,I just want to see the scenes of departed actors and the applause of those who held the highest regard.

Agreed about The Social Network. My friend says that I'm being ridiculous about that movie. I actually hate that movie and I haven't seen it yet. LOL. I have no clue why I have automatically hated it. But I will still see it.

He says the film is excellent from start to finish. But again, Christopher Nolan should have been in that category.

Anyway, I've also read conflicting reviews about "The King's Speech" but you're right, the Academy does love its English movies. And that's another movie that I will be seeing, whether I want to or not, because it'll likely win some high profile awards.

I feel the same way about Seth Rogen movies, including the Green Hornet. Unlike you I won't be seeing Green Hornet.

Yup. But then again Oscar often snubs commercial talent, and Nolan is commercial (Dark Knight = $350 million worldwide gross)

I liked Firth in A Single Man. I will eventually see The King's Speech.

Oh come on. That flick came and went in theatres. Overshadowed by bigger releases. He's in a box for 90 minutes. Ryan will never be up for an Oscar your friend needs to let it go.
