The teen pregnancy rate in a US community has reached a shocking 26 percent, prompting a massive media and educational campaign.

At just one high school in Frayser, in North Memphis, Tennessee, there have been 90 pregnancies in the past school year.

School officials are attempting to combat the trend, which has been partly blamed on the popularity of teen pregnancy TV shows like MTV's Teen Mom

Deborah Hester Harrison, executive director of Memphis’ Girls Inc, said the teen pregnancy rate in Frayser was about 10 percent higher than the rest of Memphis.

"So much of our society is sexually oriented. As adults we can look at that and it doesn't impact us, but kids are different," she told WMC-TV.

Harrison's group is now set to debut a campaign called "No Baby!" in the town, which aims to teach girls to resist getting pregnant too early.

"To empower them to learn how to say no," Hester said.

Frayser School Superintendent Kriner Cash said that males were also to blame for the growing problem

"Too often in Memphis it's not the peer group," he said.

"There are older males who are predators on these young females."

Im not surprised, especially given the fact that this happen in the Frayser area.... I feel like most teen pregnancies happen out of pure ignorance and stupidity. A lot of these school kids get a shitty sex ed class (if any at all) and on top of that a lot of these dumbasses dont wear rubbers or use birth control. I seriously dont have any sympathy for them. You should not have sex unless you understand the fact that due to your actions another life could possibly come to be.

You can blame Mtv, the parents, the school system, etc. all you want, but at the end of the day its the teens fault.

I can make an educated guess that these YOUNG MOTHERS were raised by a single mother without a strong father figure in the house.

If there were an active concern father in the home a guy wouldn't have gotten near any of these girls.

Not to diagress but speaking of pregnancy, I was listening to talk radio while driving, they are saying abortion has killed more than 40 million blacks??? since the civil rights. That is like five to six times more than the KKK, blk on blk crime and any other shit combined that killed blk folks. Damn if the number is true that is astronomical, fuck it that is a freakin genocide.

True, but if the number is that big for blacks, picture how big the number is for whites.

I have friends that stay in Memphis, Frayser is suppose to be a pretty rough area of Memphis. Im not saying that parents cant be held to some degree of fault. What Im saying, is at the end of the day, the teen (whoever they may be) is the one who made the decision to have sex. It wasnt your mom, or your dad that told you, "hey go out there and get knocked up". Blaming the parents to an extent is cool, but using the parents and everybody else as a scapegoat, is bs. The fault still rest in the hands of the teens.

Well, whites are not 12 % of society, they are not getting gun down by their brethrens as much as blks and not incarcerated by thousands.

If that number is true, blks might be endangered speices pretty soon, lol.

And this is exactly why teens need to be taught to practice safe sex as opposed to "abstinence only". smh

I see stuff about that show all the time. I never watched it but hope they don't use it as a guide for what to do. MTV = pregnant tv nowadays. Is it glamorizing pregnancy?

That figure sounds a bit off. 13,000,000 abortions. That would mean about every singe black girl would have to have done it once or something close to that number. And if we have that many abortions then how many do young ww have because I refuse to believe with make up about a tenth of the population yet we have the highest number of abortions. Doesn't make sense to me.

YES!!! If the parents had done their jobs, there be a lot fewer kids getting pregnant & getting each other pregnant. It's up to the parents to EDUCATE their kids when it comes to sex.

It usually isn't your mom telling you not to either. Teenagers are stupid...just because the body is developed, it doesn't mean the mind is. It's the parent's job to educate their children.

They need to be taught everything about sex, so they can make an educated decision about every aspect of it. My son knows what the hell is up because I educated him...even from the get-go, he knew the real names of body parts & as he got older, I told him about everything. Too many parents avoid the subject mostly out of fear, ignorance & laziness & it pisses me off. My parents didn't talk to me about any of it, and they didn't do me any favors.

I wouldn't consider abortion murder or put it in that category, in my opinion. All other categories are AFTER birth and that's where we have to look into it. Also, you're undermining that we are 14% of the population and steadily growing. So no worries here.

I'm not undermining anything. I don't follow or support this issue, I was just posting an organization that asserted AA's were "dying off" or not meeting replenish birthrate.
