Black GOP Official Resigns, Citing Arizona Tea Party Threats

WASHINGTON -- The sole black Republican Party district chairman in Arizona resigned from his post in the wake of Saturday's shooting, citing threats from the Tea Party faction and concerns for his family's safety, The Arizona Republic reports.

Republican District 20 Chairman Anthony Miller was not the only party official to resign following the shooting that killed six and wounded 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and a federal judge. But Miller had been an especially dedicated campaigner for the GOP, and said he only stepped down in the face of "constant verbal attacks" and other forms of intimidation, according to the Republic:

Miller, a 43-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills resident and former campaign worker for U.S. Sen. John McCain, was re-elected to a second one-year term last month. He said constant verbal attacks after that election and Internet blog posts by some local members with Tea Party ties made him worry about his family's safety.
    ...
The first and only African-American to hold the party's precinct chairmanship, Miller said he has been called "McCain's boy," and during the campaign saw a critic form his hand in the shape of a gun and point it at him.
"I wasn't going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday," Miller said. "I love the Republican Party but I don't want to take a bullet for anyone."

Newly-elected district Secretary Sophia Johnson, First Vice Chairman Roger Dickinson, and former district spokesman Jeff Kolb are also stepping down, according to the Republic, although Dickinson contested the claim that they are all going willingly."

Well, I guess they don't want blacks in the modern day Klan. Black conservatives don't go for the "illusion of inclusion".

Well it took awhile but Anthony Miller has seen the light. There is no room for him in the modern day amalagamation of the KKK, the American Nazis, the White Citizens Councils and the John Birch Society. Although the Tea Party people may not say "nigger" allowed, they are just as racist as their ancestors. :smt063

The Republican party is on a verge of turning in to the White National Party if they are not there already and any sane thinking black person who is a member of the GOP have to do some soul searching.

In Maine the GOP gov said to the NAACP to "Kiss My Butt". That and Steele being defeated is proof that the GOP is intolerent to Blacks.

Have you guys ever notice that our black conservative republican friends tend to pop up and crow when balance is tipped in the GOP favor then are nowhere to be found when there is a terrible event that the GOP is responsible.

    Just saying . . .

Our black Republican friends are nothing but mascots, anyway. They don't realize they are being played because the Republicans only seek to use them in order to appeal to moderate white people, but they are not going to let the black GOPers have any real power or be people that the white GOPers can take seriously.

I'm just wondering if there is a subliminal message here that a black man running anything at the helm is incompetent. Wondering if the same thing will be said of President Obama if the unemployment levels are still in the 9 percentage range this time next year (election year). Will he get a primary challenge within his party?
