don't know about anyone else, but i'm a huge documentaries lover, could even say i prefer them over movies. this thread will probably not get many responses, but thought i'd put it out there anyways. any recommendations? me: The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo anything by David Attenborough...especially The Blue Planet 7 Up (and the following 14 Up & 21 Up)...especially the one in America
I love them too. I have two that I saw recently. They are however mostly american. I will post links to three of them. http://www.hulu.com/watch/107776/when-i-came-home This is about an american vet trying to make it out in civilian life. I love it. http://www.hulu.com/watch/63282/confessions-of-a-superhero This is about how some people live in California. I loved all of the main characters especially superman. That's all that I remember from hulu. Now for vanguard Rape on the Reservation: Vanguard The title explains it. You learn a lot about the native American Indians on this one. Missionaries of Hate: Vanguard This one is about how some people ruin things for others. Missionaaries come over to convince people that gays are bad. The africans end up taking it even farther. Time for some frontline College Inc. http://video.pbs.org/video/1485280975/ This is important for all my college people. It shows you how much college and universities are a business. It talks a lot about the university of phoneix. Obama's Deal http://video.pbs.org/video/1468710007/ This talks about the healthcare deal. I have more but most of it is on frontline. I found one that I have yet to watch while making this post. I am going to watch and let you know about it.
I saw that. I loved how that one chick was open about the fact that if they brought someone to the club that was black people would have a shit fit. I was like damn some things really don't change. Donald Trump's daughter is fricking gorgeous completely out of touch but gorgeous. Tarsh a great documentary is the "corporation" it'll make you change your mind on capitalism in a heart beat.
I watched two last week that were interesting. Jesus Camp is one. Wowza. Crazy. And yet so fascinating. And I watched one that followed several doctors from med school in the 80s until just a few years ago. can't remember the title but it was really interesting to see where their lives and careers went. Both are on Netflix.
i dont know if you want to call it a doc but I just saw it the other day. diary of a tired black man. I heard that is old. there is another one that talks about the way hollywood sends subtle messages in their movies. they get on precious hard in that they talk about how evil it is against blacks
Yeah I agree. Also the one guy who is a jerk "Luke weil", who can easily pass school without doing work and doesnt want to mingle with the average joes. But for some reason I appreciated his candid honesty. I expect some snobbery in the documentary and it was there. Didn't want BS, I wanted to know how they felt.
Hell yes. I'm always intrigued by his films. He's always going outside the box, and to me, that's important in life.
Here are a few that I like Invisible empire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO24XmP1c5E Earthlings http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6361872964130308142# Home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU
Plunder - The Crime Of Our Time (being shown on Link TV) about the crash and who's responsible, follow up to "In Debt We Trust". I also recommend "History Of the Credit Card" and "The Card Game" all about the Credit and Debt Card industry both on Frontline's web site. "Sick Around The World" what the US can learn from other countries that have Universal Health Coverage, given the FAILURE of what was passed recently, I highly recommend this one. Also on Frontline's webs site. Most of PBS' stuff is on You Tube as well, you can try You Tube Laid Back which is specifically designed for watching from your TV and not in front of your PC. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "The Fear Of Nightmares" this was a BBC Documentary. If you want to know who's responsible for the Regan Revolution, the rise of the Religious Right in America and what the impact of winning the Cold War and how that lead directly too both attacks on World Trade Center Towers and finally how the boogie man was a creation of the CIA and its no joke, its the truth. I understand your from Australia, but if you planning on marrying an American and moving to the States, you better understand what your getting into.
"The Corporation" is the shit and yes it will totally change your mind on what "Cowboy Capitalism" looks like. I would strongly suggest the "Internet Edition" when has footage from The Majority Report's interview of the producer of the movie. Janeane Garofalo is in rare form with all the typical name calling you expect from her - Brilliant! Another good one is The Planet which was made in Sweden but was done in English to reach a wider audience. Spells out Climate Change very well and from some very smart people.
You should see Bill Maher's Religulous, its so funny its actually sad. The Religious Right is very powerful, has the loudest bullhorn and ton of money. Also Muslims need to take back control of Islam, they have lost the message war already to the point that not only are the radicals are using violence to kill innocent people, but the US is using that violence to justify its actions, all the while letting Israel off the hook when it does something its not suppose too - See Flotilla Murders
thought i'd bump this thread. have been watching louis theroux once a week for about a month and a half. i love his interview style and the subjects that he broaches. the most hated family in america philadelphia san quentin prison racism in south africa i would so recommend watching the above doco's...i found them to be such eye openers
