AMEN!!!! There was a great TV movie "Assault at West Point: The Court-Martial of Johnson Whittaker" that showed the abuse and hell that the first Black cadet at West Point had to endure and overcome with great dignity, Highly recommend.

that may have been the film. i never experienced racism within ROTC personally, from cadets or senior army instructors. If anything, the people within that were likely to treat you better than some assholes outside of it. But, I've never been locked away at a secluded military academy tho, so I'm not the one to speak about that.

Men of Honor is a good film too. I remember one of my uncles telling me they were screening that while he was in the Navy. Kinda like how football teams were group-huddling around 'Remember the Titans,' when that first came out. I bet both instances were very inspirational and thought provoking to mixed teams.

    @ Petty Officer

Petty Officer, maybe I did get a bit carried away, LOL. I was exaggerating but it was good to see black men as standard characters in a tough situation, without over-the-top racial caricatures, bugged-out eyes, and the like. My grandfather and most males in my family from WWII until Vietnam served so I appreciated that being brought to light and in a respectful way. Also, I found it to be a much better (albeit not perfect) film than most ostensibly targeted at a black demographic.

And Guns of Navarone was great! Dirty Dozen also, and Jim Brown didn't have to do any cooning in there, either.

I too love the Dirty Dozen. However, the scene in it where Jim Brown and a white female looked at each other with sexual interest has been cut out of the network airing of that movie. Check out the original copy of this movie and then watch the edited copy on television. Someone in the censorship room could not stand seeing a black man and white woman with passion for each other.

damn...the movie came out back in the day, so I wouldn't doubt the IR not making it to TV. That's censorship abuse by today's standards, as a 'look' isnt the same as her whipping out titties. I gotta check it out again tho..maybe see if I can find it on DVD. I need all those war movies...need to find my Bridge too Far DVD too.
