I went to the doctor a couple of months ago when I was sick and he asked me when my last blood test was...well, it'd been quite awhile, so he scheduled me to have bloodwork.

My results came to me today.

It appears from my numbers that I'm at risk for developing diabetes. I can say that I had finished drinking a soda at 10:45 p.m. and my bloodwork was done at 8:45 a.m., but my glucose levels were over what they should be. ARGH.

    FUCK YOU genetics!!

I haven't talked to my doctor about the results (they were mailed to me), but I guess I'm back to no sugar and on a diet to lose weight.

I hope to God I can get my glucose levels back to normal and keep them there. I don't want to start on insulin!! :smt085

Nate's birthday party was 99 percent awesome. But someone stole Nate's phone tonight, 3 fucking days after he got a replacement for the one that got broken recently.

    fuck!

Cause it was an iphone. Those things are expensive. >.< His mom just sent it to him to replace the other one that's messed up, too. arrrrgh.

And she's coming to visit tomorrow from Dallas, so not only does he get to face her wrath for the phone being gone, but he gets to do it in person. >.<

I just hope she's more mad at whatever fuckface stole it than either of us >.<

Hey DH, I don't know if she had insurance on it, but if she did it'll replace it even if it's stolen. That happened to my daughter's phone and I called to have them disconnect it so whomever had it couldn't use it, and they did that and mailed me a replacement because I had it insured. So you might check on that. I know some phones they won't insure due to cost, but you might get lucky.

    Co-sign this.

When people take something that doesn't belong to them it just boogles my mind. I wouldn't do that to anyone ever and I just can't understand what goes through someones mind when they steal off someone, let alone a friend. That is just pure evil and mean.

    Thanks, IB! Me too!

I did put it in that thread. LOL. Thanks, Jay!

    Thanks Tarshi!

I likely have pre-diabetes. I've known for years that I'm at a very high risk of getting diabetes. My paternal Grandmother had it, and my Mom has it now. ARGH.

I also had gestational diabetes, which makes my chances of getting it even greater. :smt086

However, this is a big warning sign to me that I have to get my act together and finally get serious about losing the extra weight that I need to, and to start exercising (I've been putting it off because I haven't been feeling all that great the last couple of months).

So, I just have to put my nose to the grindstone and make the changes I need to make to hopefully keep diabetes at bay.

It does suck that I can't drink sodas, though. :smt009 Mountain Dew is my favorite. (And no, I'll never drink the diet stuff)

    Books, I feel for you!!!
It will take a commitment to deal with this but according to your posts, you were already on this path.
The good news with people your age is that it is in the wast majority of the cases dealt with, with diet changes, not Insulin. Your already there, it sucks yes.. its a could hanging over your head, but with your determination - it can be dealt with - without too much change... the knowledge in of it self is half the battle.

I for an example, even with a lean body have my genetics to fight with - cholesterol... all my male and many female relatives on my dads side, died of heart attacks due to high cholesterol - even though they were thin. That means I have to keep my diet straight just so I make damn sure I dont get there . I hated when I got the news I have high cholesterol (even in my 20s, and having a good diet and being lean) I feel like knowing this gives me the knowledge to keep it at bay with a good diet.
Even with a good diet and being thin and exercising, its still in the 220s, but what I have managed to do is to increase good cholesterol and lower triglycerides that the high total number is no longer an issue.. Dot get too caught up in numbers, find a doc that truly knows the ins and outs of pre-diabetes etc...

You now have that, use it in the right way, not a destructive knowledge but a positive one. Its your decision how to turn it.. Dont let it bog you down, use it as a tool. Once you get over the shocking news (and it is), use it as a positive knowledge, many dont even get that...
This is the time to educate yourself of what you can do, and I know you already do.....
I also know that you have plenty to worry about in this time of your life so this might look like s huge hurdle on top of everything else.
Have no doubt we are here for you. I think of you and pray it works out.
But please, make sure you look at the "news" as a positive information you can deal with, not a hurdle.
I dont know if you have access to a dietitian but that can help - I used one and it helped to get things ironed out - She made it look very feasible and not like a insurmountably hurdle.

Sending my love and thoughts and prayers to you!

Thank you FG! I'd have repped you, but I have to spread the rep love first. :-D

As they say, knowledge is power. It sounds like you have as good a handle on your genetics that you possibly can. I don't blame you for wanting to stick with keeping it down naturally.

I'm going to have to work on keeping myself in line for the rest of my life.

I hate the fact that I can't just eat anything or drink anything anymore like so many other people. But, then again, those other people have other genetic issues to worry about, so I guess if I keep fit and indulge in sodas maybe once every few months, I should be okay.

I went to see a dietitian when I was pregnant. I don't have access now, but I can use the knowledge from then and apply it to now.

Thanks for the kind words. It's going to take quite a commitment on my part to get to where I need to be, but I know I can do it. You are proof that with determination and knowledge, this stuff can be kept at bay, naturally. :smt023

    Thanks, Jordan!!
