A while ago I decided to go cardio-free because I hate cardio machines but I've started running again and LOVE it. I only run outside and I have found that is the key to keeping me from getting bored the way I do with cardio machines.

How far do run each day? How fast do you run? How long have you been running?

I also enjoy running outdoors. I suppose I began to do it with considerable and deliberate frequency in college, however, I prefer swimming for many reasons including the fact that it is a 'lower impact' exercise by comparison.

As for speed and distance: I would like to improve, but I am satisfied with being able to run a 1 mile in 6m30s. My best 5k time is about 24m40s. I've run a marathon distance, but I didn't time myself and it wasn't competitive. I simply went running late one night on a whim, and when I calculated the distance the following morning, it came out to nearly 26mi.

Wow, that's really good! I shuffle along at between 12-13 minutes. I'd like to think only being 5'2 makes it harder for me to reach my goal of a 10 minute mile. lol

Not long ago, I met a girl who was about that height. She said she had a time for 1 mile of about 4 minutes. I found it impressive. I immediately considered the implications for her height. I'm not certain.

Just started running about a month ago for PT. I only run once a week, 2 miles. I need to run way more to get in shape. Funny how I can run a mile right now while I'm outta shape faster than I could back in high school when I was somewhat in shape. For my PT test last week, I ran 2 miles in 14:27. At the 1 mile checkpoint, I was at 6:30. I was running 7:30 miles in high school.

You know the more time I space between runs the faster/longer I can run. It amazes me. In order to get my run in, though, I have to run Tue,Thu, Fri and Sat. My Tues run is always great, Thur is pretty good and Fri and Sat are always my slowest.

I notice that too. It doesn't make sense to me, but I have no complaints if I improve my run time.

I am almost getting addicted to morning joggings...bout three kilometers per day.

running is the best. i had slowed way down as the weather has changed over a bit here, need to invest in some good whickering long sleeves. but when i get in the zone i average 3 miles per run and go 4-5 times a week. i feel really amped when i go 3 days in a row. the 3rd day feels cinematic. hahaha

i need to re-up on my running shoes. right now i am in some basic saucony joints.
light weight, good padding under the heel and outter side of the foot. feels comfortable on long runs.

before that i was gettin it in with some asics.
heavy weight, extra padding on the inside/ball of the foot. i wouldn't suggest this shoe for long runs.

a lot of people keep telling me to try brooks.

what type of shoes do you all run in?

Hehe I have asaics too. Found them more comfortable than saucony.

Very underrated compared to bigger names like Nike

    Anyone ever tried these?

And, I read somewhere once that if you have high arches, over time, running can make your arches fall and thus make your foot longer. I have high arches and haven't noticed this. Anyone else here run with high arches? What has been your experience?

Fastest mile 6:06, I would like to run 5:30 but I'm focused on gaining muscle for now.

I usually run about 13 miles per week.

personally, i think nike is horrible. for running. it's just a fashon symbol.
i definitely never played ball (basketball) in em. couldn't stand nike basketball shoes.

i don't know about the arches thing but i definitely wear a bigger shoe now that i run a lot. and that's just my casual chillin shoe. when i run, i wear a shoe half a size larger than normally. (someone actually suggested wearing a full size larger, but that seems a bit too much to me)

"Make sure the salesperson looks at the shape and arch to figure out what type of foot you have. Determining your foot type is key to making sure you get the right running shoes. The salesperson should also measure your foot. Your running shoes should be 1/2 to a full size bigger than your regular shoe size because your feet will swell when you run and you need plenty of room in the toebox. If your toes are crammed in the front of the running shoe, you could develop bruised or black toenails."

Welcome back Allilyn. Like you, I prefer to run outside. I usually keep it under 3 with a strong finish, but every October I run the Army Ten Miler. Couldn't make it to the Pentagon to do it this year but we staged one here in Basrah last month:

By the way, getting down to a 10 min mile is a good goal. The best thing is to enjoy running and get out and do it.

As far as shoes, I'm rocking NBs.
