Just impossible for our minds to comprehend.

I love astronomy! We are so insignificant.

It's fun when teaching about our solar system to kids, to create a rough scale using different sized balls spread out along a football field. It really helps to put it into perspective and the kids really enjoy it. Space is one of my favourite units to teach :D

It's ridiculously crazy how huge the universe is. So much more knowledge to be gained about it and some shit will never even be imaginable to humans.

It's never too late! I went to uni with a 56 year old woman!

It can be a very satisfying profession, for sure :)

This looks like something people post when they are high lol

But for real though, I feel you, there is so much out there & we know so little about it.

There isn't enough money in it. A guy will have much harder time pulling a quality girl if he's only making 30k a year so it leaves very little incentive for guys. I think its a great profession for women though.

Not at all. I just find that a man's salary is more important in a relationship than a woman's. A woman isn't expected to take care of the family financially,
women's liberation hasn't changed expected gender roles that have existed for eons in only forty years. Sorry.

So, if someone said that he/she thinks black people should still be slaves in the cotton fields, using your logic, it wouldn't be a racist statement because emancipation only happened 148 years ago. :smt017 A racist today is the same as a racist before emancipation and a sexist today is the same as a sexist before women's liberation. The time period that it is set in has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Your logic is flawed. Also, what if her husband dies and she has to go it alone with kids?? Wouldn't her ability to earn a good living and support her family be just as important as his ability?? We are not living in the dark ages.

    Agreed.

I think you're missing the point of what I was saying. Family structures that have existed everywhere since the beginning of man formulates around the idea men are hunters and gathers and women take care of home. Both equally important jobs in taking care of family structure. I'm not saying that men and women should be or have to be restricted to those roles but studies have shown that it works better that way. You as an individual might think differently but it appears that women are far more attracted to men who earn good salaries and more so when they out earn them. Masculinity and feminity are tied to earning potential or lack there of.

And I definitely reject and resent your statement that a racist 148 years ago is the same as one today. You know how its different? Churches with children in them aren't being burned, I'm not on trial for just saying hello to you, people aren't eating at picnics while they hang my brothers and sisters.
Women aren't being beaten and raped no where the same levels of yesteryear, women are allowed to own property, be anything they want to be. So what the fuck are you talking about?
The sexists and racist of today have nothing on the past.

Umm you guys don't really like to read you just love to react. I'm not saying women can't or shouldn't pursue other careers I'm just saying women aren't as concerned with finances or their financial contribution as much as a man is. Don't believe me? Look at how many females go into teaching opposed to women because men know they have a better chance of attracting a quality woman and taking care of family if they make a lot more than 30k a year. People typically plan families around what the men make because women usually stay at home with the kids.
Btw my logic is completely sound thanks.

I think you totally missed GG's point Andrae, or rather perhaps read way more into it that what she intended. She drew a simple analogous parallel using your line of logic, but used a racist statement to illustrate a point. I got what she meant, and it was nowhere near what you're suggesting, nor was it offensive. You know GG better than that, she's not someone who goes around offending people.

As for your comment on gender roles, there will always be people who subscribe to them, but that doesn't mean that everyone buys into that shit. There are plenty of women who not only out earn men, but who don't care that they do. Are there gold-diggers in the world? Sure there are. But I think time and time again the women here have indicated that the majority of us aren't like that, don't care how much money you make, and don't expect or want a man to take care of us. As such, I wonder why it gets brought up so much here, obviously if we aren't like that then we aren't going to be able to offer anything productive on that subject. Seems to me you should be complaining to the women who are like that, rather than those of us who aren't. If all you encounter are shallow, gold-digging women then maybe you should relocate, seriously.
