First a vet, then not long after that, a singer.

A surgeon (i loved to draw and that takes patience with the hands) when I was in grade school. As I got older, I wanted to become an officer in the Army or go into Law Enforcement. Not a ton of money to be made in either profession, but it's where I believed I fit in. Sometimes that's more important.

One of my uncles was a MP in the air force, then came out and became a state trooper down in Roanoke. I remember him sleeping over between the transition and having him show me his Beretta and being in love with his profession. After that, law enforcement seemed like a cool career.

    no idea

i was told not to inquire about someone's military background, unless they came forth and told you. One of my older uncles was 'supposedly' a sniper in Vietnam (because no one says they shoveled shit on base, during a war), and no matter how hard I wanted to ask him a question, my family told me not too because of the psychological trauma. They said it was okay if he initiated that kind of talking tho. So, I just got into the habit of not poking around like that.

ROTC was different tho. You asked your instructors anything under the sun, because they been through it all, and are in the profession of passing on what they know to you, to make you better.

I remember one of the cadets asking our First Sergeant if he killed people back in 'Nam. He just gave him a weird look like 'what the fuck do you think i did'

Makes sense. I wouldn't ask somebody something as personal as killing somebody. A kid would do that shit. I thought it was alright to ask about basic training though since so many people talk about their basic training experience and it isn't giving any info about what their actual job will be.

    depends on their experience

we had a few guys that went through army basic during the summer, and weren't exactly thrilled the following fall semester

When I was a kid I wanted to be:

    - in politics

    - Marine biologist

    - Egyptologist

    - Archaeologist (I do have my bachelor's in Anthropology)

    - in movies.

As of today, I've worked in Anthropology (even going on a dig) and I've acted and produced movies.

Unfortunately, I'm not making any money doing either at the moment. :smt042

I'm hoping to change that soon enough, though.
