Overrated

In many respects that is unfortunately true, especially with the recent rise of for-profit colleges that overcharge for a substandard education.

That said, the utility of college is not something should necessarily be quantified in market terms. You will probably earn more over the course of a lifetime than someone who didn't attend college, however, the authentic value comes from learning how to question widely held assumptions about the world.

 

After considered diliberation, I've decided pretty much everything is overrated, nothing is quite as it seems and pretty much everything gets hyped up for absolutly no bloody reason.

Thats what Im going back to school for, I still plan on pursuing my acting career but I do want to have a skillset type job. I was thinking about going back to school for theatre at first but then I thought about how pointless it is, I mean as long as you major in something somewhat important, the options after graduation are more open to you. Alot of people have this misconception that you have to take this or that to get to law school and stuff but I know people who've gotten in law school just by having a bachelor in English. I remeber reading somewhere that somewhere around "70%" of college graduates, dont even get a job in their particular field when they get out of college.

 

just having the degree is enough for the most parts. with a nursing degree, u could work any job requiring a science degree (some companies like the federal government, specifically ask for science degrees in some professions, not arts), with the added benefit of going into a skilled profession such as nursing.

im not bashing liberal arts, but a science degree and the high-technical regimen (200, 300+ level courses) that comes with it, just seems to go a bit farther.

I'll bash liberal arts since I have a ba in Poli Sci. Unless you go to law school that degree amongst many others are useless as just a BA. Some people have the money and time to find themselves but the vast majority of us have to work and liberal arts degrees don't usually help you achieve that at the undergraduate level.

 

it depends on the liberal arts....If Im not mistaken mathematics fall under liberal arts and that can land you a job as an engineer. not bad,.
