Whenever the Republican Party shows what can be interpreted as racism, they find a black Republican to be a human shield. It didn't work with Michael Steele; and, wait... here's a big surprise - it didn't work with Juan Williams, either...

except that he is not a republican. Bill O'riely made the comments before him and he has been defending Obama on FOX for a while. but everything else is well put. I am sure if Obama turns up on Fox news enough times that he will become a republican too.

Please... In his own words: "I'm not a predictable, black liberal." Moreover, his disdain for the First Lady seems to reveal a Racial Identity Disorder. Not only that, but "Independent" is a way of being a Republican while it's unfashionable...

notice the increase in predictable! meaning he is an unpredictable liberal(Hence why some are having trouble pinning him down as a liberal). He would have said I am not a liberal if he wasn't. He can talk all he wants about the first lady(not the first time someone has talked about the first lady in her own party or her own race). He defends the Obama's policies on fox. I don't care one bit about the first lady. I care about the policies. There are people on this board who have argued against the health care bill(andrea). Should I label them republicans as well? Independent is not a way of being a republican. There are a lot of independents that lean left. The problem with some people in these parties is that if you aren't in their party they want to alienate or antagonize you. That's how you lose elections by alienating people out of your party. Calling them things that they are not. There are no permanent parties just permanent interest! That's why majority of black people switched from republican to democrat. The democrats at least try to entertain the interest of black people. Don't forget the democrats were against freeing the slaves! both parties are bad for minorities! It is just a question of which party is less toxic to your interest.

No, it's not sad. It's about respect, period. Had this guy said that he gets nervous every single time he see's a black guy walking pass that he holds his wallet, this place would be in a outrage. Had this guy said he get nervous when he see's white people walking past cause he thinks they are racist, conservative america would be in outrage. In the end, people are excusing his stereotyping because attacking Muslims is the new thing in America. But most of all, when he is going on a show representing a company, he has to be mindful of what he says.

I own my own company. Let's just say one of my artists received a movie deal on one of his/hers projects and he gets invited to go to fox news to talk about it. Had he issue similar statements as Juan, you best believe I would give him/her the boot. Because no way is that sort of opinion tolerated in my company. When you don't perform actions against ideals that are blatantly wrong, than you yourself are condoning the ideals that they state. Plus, you have to deal with the public. Just like my artist would be a representative of
Snowstorm Comics, Juan is a representative of NPR. As such, their actions would be a reflection upon the company and what they stand for.

Way to go NPR!! Before Rosa Parks had the audacity to sit in the front of the bus - in spite of the fact that it made a lot whites nervous, a black man was subject to possible arrest. It's good to see the clear thinking of NON-conservative media...

A lot worse has been said by radio and tv pundits that still have their jobs, so the standard is not the same as other professions were one is not paid to give their political or social views. No comparison between your job and his.

My regard for NPR just went up by 300%. It's so refreshing to know that there is a media source that will not promote bigotry. I'm glad Juan ran to FOX News - which has no credibility whatsoever. I'm happy that NPR hasn't lowered its standards to tolerate reactionary conservatism.
