NPR announced late on Wednesday night that it has terminated the contract of longtime analyst Juan Williams over his comments on Fox News that, when he is on a plane with Muslims, "I get nervous."NPR's media reporter David Folkenflik broke the news on Twitter Williams' comments came during a discussion with Bill O'Reilly on Monday's "O'Reilly Factor." O'Reilly asked Williams if he had been in the wrong during his now-infamous appearance on "The View" last week]. (There, O'Reilly's statement that "Muslims killed us on 9/11" caused Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg to walk off the set in anger.)
Williams replied that he thought O'Reilly had, in fact, been right. He continued:
"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."
Williams did go on to tell O'Reilly that he had to be "careful" to stress that he was not talking about all Muslims when he criticized some and that America was not at war with Islam. He also compared blaming all Muslims for the actions of extremists to blaming all Christians for the actions of Timothy McVeigh. (O'Reilly responded that he was "done" being careful.)
In a statement, NPR said that it had informed Williams of its decision on Wednesday night, and that his remarks were "inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR."
Williams had been a contributor and analyst at NPR for decades, but his dual role on Fox News -- where he has also been a longtime and frequent contributor -- drew so many complaints from NPR's listeners that it asked Fox News to stop identifying Williams as an "NPR News Political Analyst" in 2009.

The insane left strikes again. Progressives hold on to power this country is doomed.

Yes it is a shame since he was saying his opinion and has not even negative about it.

I am not a fan of Juan Williams, actually I think he is a closet conservative, but I believe NPR was looking for an excuse to fire Mr. Williams ever since he became a FOX News contributor. NPR probably he wasn't a good fit for their organization if Mr. Williams is towing the conservative line.

Now he can become a full fledge black conservative on the FOX News channel and be called . . . "One of the GOOD ONES". If anyone here doesn't know the term ask any of the black conservative members here.

What a bunch of BS to get fired over something like that. We live in such an ultra PC society its disgusting.

And fuck NPR. A lot of their funding comes from us citizens. What a load of shit.

For a man that is conservative, I have never seen a man defend Barack Obama on fox news so often! Make no mistake the guy is much closer to a progressive than conservative.

I guess its better to be fake and walk on egg shells rather than be honest and speak your mind these days.

I imagine the NPR would have been just fine if he said anything about any other group of people. Oh well, guess that's just apart of coddling hot topics in America these days, especially anything that has to do with muslims. :smt069

Tim Wise's latest essay is about the whole situation and I pretty much agree with everything he said.

What a bunch of garbage. But on the bright side, he is better off being away from these america hating fools. More proof liberalism is a mental disorder.

It was the correct decision, no doubt about it and cannot imagine any employee expressing a similarly worded opinion about any group and expecting to keep their job.

    Williams deserved to get fired.

Agreed, you make statements like this at most jobs, you get fired. It's that simple. But since america is the place where it's encourage to treat others like douchebags, can't say I'm surprised at some of the reactions to it.

Within 24 hours, Juan Williams lost his job as an analyst at NPR, only to sign a lucrative $2 million contract with Fox News

Though there maybe few conservative white women who date black men give me those white women with the liberal mental disorder who mostly date black men.

If Mr. Williams can use that muslim logic in his comments he must get uncomfortable seeing white people believing most to be in the KKK or Nazis.

Sadly this is the age we live in, everything is now so hyper-political that if you say anything that goes against the grain of a particular political party that you're surrounded by, you are branded as a liberal or conserative only (I guess there's only room to pick one or the other, because you can't be in the middle, right? lol..), you're then tarred, feathered and rode out of town on some sort of railing. We're so worried about offending people these days and getting across political agendas, that we can no longer tell the difference between a person that is saying something truely hateful, or just sharing a sincere concern about something. I guess we can excuse what happened to Juan Williams because he's a public figure, so he had it coming, that'll teach him to be more responsible for what he says, how dare he be human and try to be real while on camera. Guess next time he should lie like a dog and keep everything to himself

And then people have the nerve to complain about politicians being honest.

Exactly. So danged if you do, danged if you don't. Or, don't worry about what people think and just do it, like Nike.
