Program Description: Every leading indicator -- unemployment, income, wealth, educational attainment, homeownership and foreclosures -- demonstrates that the African-American financial foundation is crumbling at rates that are worse than other segments of the U.S. population. Reported by anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien, "Almighty Debt" explores how one church is helping its 7,000 parishioners survive the worst financial crisis for African-Americans since the Great Depression. Rev. DeForest Soaries believes "debt is the new slavery." See inside his church as he fights debt from the pulpit and leads his members on a new revolutionary struggle.

No but the premise of the documentary boils down to it. A bunch of people trying to find worth in what they have and not in who they are. Centuries of identities being stripped away and being told that they were of little value because of their skin something that was impossible to escape. Slaves before them were branded slaves because of where they were from or even because of religous choice things that could be altered but the new slave ideology had people of African decent trapped in a new way so much so that even after they were "freed" they were still in bondage because of poor self image passed down from generation to generation. So what do we have now? A cultrue obsessed with material things in order to prove that they are worthy of existing because history has taught them more often than not despite your accomplishments you'll still be seen as lowest of low because of your skin.

    Sorry rant over lol.

You might have a point but it has nothing at all to do with the program. It will run again, I just missed when. Watch it- its well worth it - its a debate, not a blame game or new theories.

If you go into black neighborhoods, there often a lot of check cashing business disproportionately there. They give out loans at close to usury prices. The only people robbing the american people more then those kind of stores are the banks. They can charge your ass 1000% interest with no problems. They'll just call it a overdraft fee. lmao. Not only that but they have done a good job convincing the people that they like it. such bull and we just sit there(not me I found a way out of it) and take it.
