You said it was 'just' a haircut. Which it's not. At my barbershop there's a price for a haircut and a price for just a line up, so clearly they're not the same thing.
She said it was basically a haircut, and that's what it is. Her description would have been completely helpful to someone who had no idea what you were talking about. Why would you want to get into an argument over something so tiny? You're really saying that if a barber only cuts hair around the edges of your hairline, that's not a haircut? As far as your base question, I think generally you get positive responses if you're neat/well-groomed. The particular details of your grooming habits (whether you get a line up or not, for instance) are probably going to be irrelevant -- question is simply, do you look good or not?

Well it kind of goes without saying that getting a haircut is going to make you more attractive, but what I was wondering is whether or not the shape up is a big deal.. mainly because I can cut my own hair no problem with a clipper, but I don't know how to do line ups. And yes if the barber only cuts the hair around the edges, it's not a real haircut just a line up, because barely any hair gets cut during that process. It just shapes your hairline and makes it really square. The difference between the two you can see in the two pics below.. first guy has a really sharp square hairline and the other guy just has a regular buzzcut with no line up(couldnt find a pic of a black guy with one).
Are you as a dumb as your threads? I gave the simplest answer to someone with NO knowledge of what a shape up is. I'm not going to say dreads, although, you could still get cleaned up with it too, but for the sake of explaining what it is simply, I said a fade. Most bruthaz I know with a fade, get a shape up cause they have either a goatee or they have a thin beard or something to that effect, so that shit comes with the territory. There's no shame in admitting when you don't know something. Which you didn't and likely still don't. If you knew what a line up/shape up actually was you would have mentioned the hairline. It's not just a haircut and it's definitely not a fade. That's like someone asking what bangs are and me saying it's growing your hair out long, or just saying it's long hair. Comprende? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just trying to save face, while actually realizing that you were initially wrong. If you really do still think that was a good example, then you're clearly not as bright as you think you are.
