I got the sarcasm - but if you don't mind me saying, it was the part about you "getting wet" that really caught my attention. Then, I looked at your avatar - and my imagination got the best of me...
When I hear people say "sounding white", it PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF. If anything, I find it way more racist to imply someone sounds white vs calling a black person a nigger. Its like a smart black guy cant just be a smart black guy, he has to be called a black guy trying to be white. Which implies that whites are the only ones capable of being smart. Positive human qualities are associated with being white, and negative human qualities are associated with being black. To sound white, means to sound educated, well mannered, etc etc. To sound black means to sound ignorant, lacking in manners, uneducated, etc etc. When I hear black people say that ish to other black people, I swear my blood boils. Whether the black people that say that shit know it or not, their being racist to themselves and encouraging ignorance. This sounding/acting white or black shit is just as bad as that good/bad hair bs.
Lmao .... Oh, my bad. I forgot I changed the pic. See, being able to hear tone in text would help lol
Well said. Hopefully this insight will allow the poster to see that it's not always about finding the answer to your questions, but analyzing the sort of question you're asking to begin with.
I agree with you 100%.. which is why in that first post I added the parts about how you can still sound "black" but be educated and articulate. I'm talking more about how in general a white man's voice is different from a black mans. Whether it's the pitch, the tonality, etc a lot of times you can tell what race a man is just by hearing his voice. There are obvious differences between black and white men(which explains why the women on this site prefer black men to white ones). How Am I wrong in asking if this particular difference plays a part in this preference?
In a nutshell, it seems what you really want to know is if it's possible that your voice is somehow making you less popular with women. The answer is, nobody here can really answer that if they don't know what you sound like. "Sounding white" is a vague and loaded term. Is it your perception that your voice is somehow a turn off for some women?
To me, sounding whitenor black comes down to the sound of the voice, not the verbage used. I've met lots of men of various races that sound "white" due to having a generic American accent and a certain pitch of voice. My bf has a very black voice. It's deep and beautiful, though he doesn't generally speak with much slang. His accent, while very minute, helps, too. But even when it's not noticeable at all the deep tone has that certain sound that immediately pegs his race if one were to talk on the phone with him. I've heard plenty of white guys with deep voices that still don't sound black. They don't have the same sound quality even if they're on equal pitches.
There is no exclusivity over pitch, tonality, etc etc. Anybody can sound any kind of way. I know what you're implying but you have to realize that race does not play a factor in how you sound. Your enviorment as in, what country you're from, what state, what kind of schooling you had, etc. are what pllay a role in how you sound NOT race. There is such thing as African American Vernacular English, but still anybody can learn/develop this way of speech, based on enviorment. The whole you can tell what race someone is based on the way they talk can be true but it is still ignorant thinking. Thats like someone saying a persons name can help you determine what race they are. Like oh, your bf's name is Tyrone I guess he's black, or Oh your gfs name is Becky so I guess she is white. I understand what you're trying to say but its still a bad way to think. Voice, name etc. dont have shit to do with race it has EVERYTHING to do with enviorment.
Not really.. I've been told I sound "white" before, but I also know my voice is considered fairly deep. Whether or not I have a white guys deep voice or a black guys deep voice, I don't know (as Persephone wrote about above). I was more wondering if the vocal difference played a big part in the attraction some white women have for black men. Judging by the responses (or lack thereof), I guess it doesn't?
Lol I'm just replying to a post directed at me... Don't worry I'm not sitting here agonizing over this.. it's just a random thought that popped into my head that I decided to make a thread on. That's what forums like this are for.
Then I guess I won't worry about you then. I was wondering if someone was gonna have to call Dr. Phil for you. LOL!
Haha nope no Dr.Phil needed here. Thanks for the concern though.. now you'll be able to sleep tonight and won't be up wondering whether or not I'm refreshing the thread 5 times a sec praying desperately for an answer.
