That's why there's no such thing as Utopia and you won't know that from not traveling. But of course too many Americans are ignorant and have never traveled anywhere, but often make pronouncements about the quality of life elsewhere.

Hence, where the phrase "The Ugly American" is derived from - courtesy of our neighbours in The World Outside og The United States.

As well as the reason - very valid reason - for said epithet..

What bait? I find his post entertaining as it gets some people's panties in a bunch and all defensive about their country.

I'll say right now America is a fucking shit hole, racist, misogynist, religiously manipulated country that's controlled by 6 industries who have bought off almost every politician and is a 3rd World Country that laughs at developing nations. Pot meet Kettle...

But Many Moons ago, my Dear Old Dad (G.R.H.S.) *did* say that The States was headed in said direction.

    How right he *now* is...:(

Britain is the fattest country in Europe!

Britain is the fattest country in Europe and the fifth most overweight in the world.

    September 25, 2010

Britons are the fattest people in Europe, with one of the world's fastest obesity growth rates, according to a leading international think-tank.

According to a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 24 percent of men were rated obese and 25 percent of women in 2008 in the UK. In addition, 42 percent of men are overweight and 32 percent of women, meaning that up to two in three people have their health put at risk by their weight.

In Scotland, latest figures show 35 percent of 12 to 15-year-olds are overweight or obese, compared with 29 percent of children aged five to 17 in England.

The Irish are now the second fattest people in Europe after the UK. It found that one in four adults in Ireland are obese, with obesity defined as being nearly 30lbs above a normal, healthy weight.

Healthcare in England is so poor that women live longer in the former communist state of Slovenia. A report showed that female life expectancy in England is also lower than in almost all western European countries.

A woman born in England can expect to live to 81 years and 11 months, but her Slovenian counterpart will have an extra two months of life - even though the former Yugoslav republic spends far less on healthcare.

Over the past year England has slipped from 14th to 16th among EU countries, overtaken by both Slovenia and Malta. At the top is France, where women can expect to reach 85.

The annual Health Profile of England from the Department of Health also revealed that deaths from chronic liver disease among British women have climbed above the EU average, driven by the rise in binge drinking.

Infant mortality in England is also higher than the EU average, with 4.8 babies dying out of 1,000. This is much higher than both Slovenia and the Czech Republic, countries which only 20 years ago were behind the Iron Curtain.

Female heart attack and cancer victims are more likely to die in England than in most western European countries. Premature mortality from circulatory diseases in England is 20.7 per 100,000 women under 65 - much higher than the Slovenian figure of 17.2 and the 12.4 recorded in France. Premature mortality from cancer (62.9 per 100,000 women under 65) is higher than the EU average, and on a par with the former Soviet republic of Estonia.

British women are the most overweight in Europe

British women also have Europe's highest average Body Mass Index - the measure of weight that takes into account someone's height.

A BMI is revealed by dividing someone's weight in kilograms by their height in metres squared. A BMI below 18.5 is regarded as dangerously underweight, a BMI over 25 is overweight while a BMI over 30 is clinically obese.

British women have the highest with 26.2, a level regarded as overweight.

You're entitled to your opinion about GB but there is no need to make multiple threads about it. So I've combined them for you.
