Carmelo wants to play for a contender, so he's going to New Jersey?

    Dumbass.

Supposedly the owner has mentioned acquiring Chris Paul to gain more interest from Carmelo, but Paul isn't a free agent for two more years.

He'll be in Denver until around the trade deadline.

Carmelo wants out of Denver. The Nets are a deep-pocketed team owned by a Russian billionaire. Jay-Z also has an interest in the Nets. This trade will prolly happen if Denver signs on. The Nets can acquire a supporting cast of players. The Nets can deal for Chris Paul irrespective of when he becomes a free agent.

BTW, the Nets already have a 7-foot center, Brook Lopez.

Are you sure? Nuggets are owned by Walmart heir Kroencke.

He's possibly going to Nets but he wants to ride with the Knicks, the Knicks do not have enough quality players to make the trade so the Nets are the next option and not a bad one. The Nets have Brook Lopez who's a baller, Jordan Farmer will be decent enough and former Duke center Brian Zoubek will bring a Chris Anderson (Bird Man) type energy for the Nets. The Nets will acquire more parts they have Avery Johnson who's a DEFENSIVE coach and they move to Brooklyn in a deuce spot...

Other than the $13-14 billion that owner is holding, Avery and Brook are the only worthwhile things about the Nets. If the trade goes through, they'll lose Devin Harris and Derrick Favors. The third best player on the team will be Jordan Farmar or Troy Murphy, who aren't good nor paid enough to trade for Chris Paul.

Carmelo is obviously talented but is less than an All-Star without the ball than he is with it. He needs a roster similar to what he currently has with the Nuggets, something the Nets won't be anytime soon. The best players on the Lakers are all in their 30s, which means that Los Angeles won't dominate the West through the entire decade. If Carmelo stayed put, he'd stand a better chance of getting to the Finals in Denver than trying to get past Lebron, Wade, and Bosh in Miami over the next 10 years. Bad move.

The Nuggets are a team capable of making the playoffs year after year in the more talented West.

The Nets a team completely incapable of making the playoffs since the Jason Kidd / Kenyon Martin / Kerry Kittles team from 2005 or so?

Knicks ownership has proven to be consistently completely incompetent.
