    not really

guys dedicate their entire lives to it and practice well into their 50s-60s. As long as your body can take it, there is no age.

Mas Oyama is a legend. I admire this man. What he had accomplished is still legandary to this day. His karate was so strict and tough. Did you know that in that old James Bond movie "You Only Live Twicw" Oyama's school and students were in the Ninja role and that karate training camp that Sean Connery (James Bond) was training in. Oyama gave Sean Connery an honorary black belt then. I have all of Oyama's books. Just recently got "Advanced Karate" by Mas Oyama. It cost me nearly $500 dollars. It's a hard to find book. My wife was not thrilled.

Dude I use to dream about being in the kumite when I was a kid. Fighting 100 men. He did 300 and no one has come close since. Its amazing stuff man.

college textbooks dont cost that much, man lol.

but you only live once and if that makes you happy, go for it. There's an old-school karate documentary featuring Mas Oyama and a bunch of brothers, that were participating in a tournament like in the 70s.

I peeped this a while back. Shows you the training and everything that goes into competing in high-level karate. Very interesting to see brothas being portrayed as karate experts too. You don't really see that.

So true. I will until I'm dead. When I'm buried I will take my Gi and belt with me. You are never too old to learn, train, or practice a martial art whether it's Tai Chi or Karate or Boxing or Tae Kwon Do. Someday my son will experience it all.

A dime who can fight...not enough of those. Stereotype (in US of A) is female martial artists are butch...but just look at the Asian action heroines and Gina Carrano.

well, training to 'fight' is more important than training for physical appearance. what I mean is that you're going to run into more conditioning and building lean muscle, moreso than big guns and huge pecs (that shit wears on your stamina too much). Ken Shamrock, Shawn Sherk, and a few others are the exceptions (and to be honest arent exactly top fighters in their divisions). But when you look at the UFC and stuff like that, the best fighters in their divisions, aren't bulky. They're strong, but they wont win any bodybuilding contests anytime soon (GSP does have a nice build tho).

On the flip side, it really depends on how you fight. If you're more into BJJ, you want the muscle endurance and that flexibility. If you're a wrestler, you're generally going to be a little stronger (and perhaps bigger), because of the nature of that sport, and the need to use brute force to throw guys around.

The problem with the video was they seem to give more credit to the style rather the fighter. Several times they referenced karate being a stronger art than kung fu completel ignoring that the dudes doing kung fu were easily 20 to 30 pounds lighter.
