DUDE!!!! I remember seeing the video for the first time on the Box in 2nd grade. That is another 90s favorite of mine. Man, back in the day........*flashbacks*
That was a good jam, too. club songs back then were so good. That's one reason why I don't like to go to clubs and dance. These new club tracks suck ass.
I don't think R&B has fallen off I think it has become more overt less about the artistry and more about the popularity. (I would not consider R Kelly, or Ginuwine R&B..and more Pop). ...The subject matter of R&B has become grotesque and almost offensive. Yes Marvin Gay sang about "sexual healing" but he did with a touch of flare. Sexual healing vs Birthday sex. ...but you really can't blame the artist, they are simply selling what people want to buy. People don't want art they want POP......its the reason why hip hop is putting out so many wack pathetic artists... "Oh you fancy huh...you fancy huh" gawd I hate rap from the south.....can't wait till it gets back to the lyrics man [/Lupe Fiasco]
I BEE Mary cannot go back to what she was. Life's good and she appears happily married. Mary was Maay-rie when she was getting physically and mentally abused by KC and doing drugs in the 90's. Unfortunately the drama in her life gave her shit to sing that women could truly relate too, it was her blueprint. Furthermore were used to her raw heart felt singing being off key from time to time it made her unique As for R&B it's doo-do and has been for a minute...
Well, if we take that incident where she hit her husband in the club, then maybe we can get a good joint out of it...lol All kidding aside, you bring out a good point. That pain does bring out good music.
They just started a 90s RNB night in my town. Pretty cool, very popular, even with younger people and not just people who are 30+ To be honest, I can't really think of a current RnB artist that I like. I've been listening to a lot of dancehall lately, prefer dancing to that and clubbing to that than to stupid NeYo.
I agree I thought it was just me. Sometimes I feel like I should be wearing an Abercrombe and Fitch t-shirt and some skinny jeans when listening to some of this auto-tuned, bubble gummed bullshit passing as R&B.
There are a few holdouts though... Don't sleep on Urban Mystic...his new single "In the Morning" is off the damn chains....fuckin love this song. I also like Jaheim's new one. Glad he's not singing about wifing up the hood rat...cop his new one to. Another great soulful female artist is Leela James...very sexy voice.
Reminds me of this one track by Tonedeff(sick rapper). He said "I'm nice with a day job. these niggas write all day and still suck."
lmao speaking of writing..that takes me back to high school, watching the brothas write music in class
I dunno, ever heard of someone called 'Cassidy' We were in French I together in high school in Philly. Central High class of 259. He used to battle and be good at it, but I never heard him spit before he got rich. Philly turns out some good spitters.
