If Hip-Hop is dead, did R&B fall of a cliff? Just listening to Usher's new album and i have to say it sucks bad. Coming up, we had R.Kelly, Maxwell, Ginuwine and D'Angelo. Now what do we have? A half rate Usher and Chris "Second Round Knockout" Brown. The female acts aren't that much better either. Is it me or am i just being too snobbish?
We were just discussing this in the FUNK thread, how even though it was heavily instrumentally based, their voices back then were also quality. You don't find that today. There really isn't a good male soul singer out right now. I can't say that about female R & B because there is. I like Ledesi, J-Hud, Angie Stone, but even that list isn't long. I think you may be right, Esoterik.
Good news! Mary is going back to her old formula. I loved and mis old Mary.... http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1648159/20100917/blige_mary_j.jhtml Hopefully she delivers....
Didn't know the shit existed anymore. All I see(whenever I happen to see a commercial for some singer/rapper) is a big fucking blend. Hip-hop is R&B is Techno is pop. It's disgusting. All these fuckers hook up with hip-hop producers and makes some bullshit And singers just suck ass, today. I swear, most of them sound the same. I hear a bunch of sections of R&B songs, whether it's on a commercial or in someone's car or whatever and most of these singers sound the exact same. A couple months ago, my mom and I were driving to LA and she put in that Keri Hilson cd......I was fucking disgusted. Not only was it another R&B singer with a hip-hop twist, but her singing was generic as shit. She sounded like almost every other female singer I had hear in the past few years. My mom then looks over and says "it's good, huh?" I was like "Uh, no". I'm sticking to old school. They were about something. They weren't crying over tracks just for the fuck of it. That "oh, baby" shit is long played out, but these chump ass new school singers keep being lame. And enough with Fuck this shit. I'm gonna go listen to the Stylistics. God dammit.
I lub you SD, but I guess cause I'm a Hip Hop head, I'm going to have respectfully disagree. There has been a lot of good R&B since the birth of Hip Hop. Mainstream music sucks as a whole right now....
Let me say, Corporate America killed R&B and made it crap (just like they turned hip hop into a modern day blackface minstrel show).
HELL YEA!!!! All I see out nowadays is some nigga singng the same recycled bs that some other nigga sang a few songs back. There is no originality whatsoever nowadays just teenie bopper bs. I mean its one thing to listen to bs and take it for what it is. But its completely different to call bs, "classics" and most kids in my generation call everything a FUCKIN classic. Im pretty sure u got a nigga somewhere right now in the world calling Stanky Leg a classic, SMH.
Cooperate America kills every kind of music and try to market shit like it is still raw. Like trying to market Avril Leveine as punk rock or some shit.
I can pinpoint when Hip Hop died (in my eyes), but I can't pinpoint when R&B died. (ponders on this) I think like everything, the negative outweighs the positive so you know how that goes.
In my eyes, hip hop died in 93, when Corporate America made it into shitty nigga step and fetchit show. R&B isn'd dead per se, just terminally ill.
I love it when I see the younger generation being up on what's good music vs. bullshit. Kudos to yawl!
Mufuckas always confuse a "hot" track and a good or "classic" track. Hot tracks are just popular or potentially popular songs. And since we're on hip-hop, mixtape DJs piss me the fuck off. Stop all that god damn yelling, foo'!
