seriously, who actually thought that the two leads from a show, would be in an IR relation?


people wouldn't watch it ( I would ) and that's not a risk worth taking in showbiz.

 

Don't worry.

The show will be cancelled by Jan 2011.

 

That show will end up on either TV One or BET soon.

 

It probably won't even make it that far.


Remember what happened to that last show they had around this time of year?

It was two shows, actually, one had the IR astronauts and the other was called 'The Philanthropist'. Both of which, consisted of IR relationships that did not involve the main characters and they were both cancelled in less than 2 months.

 

Ha! Obviously! That's an understatement. I've visited dozens of sites and read and collected dozens of articles/columns on the subject. Towards the end there were some people who FINALLY noticed that lost in all the hoopla about the first black princess was the little fact that a black guy was not chosen as a prince and that black boys were never given such opportunities to see themselves represented that way. But for the most part the conventional attitude was that the selection of a black princess was a moment to celebrate. That was the thrust of most articles and interviews. There was even a call to celebration by many black folks that a positive presentation of an interracial relationship was put out there for the masses to see. Allison Samuels, a black female writer for Newsweek, went a few steps further saying the movie would serve as inspiration for black women to look for mates outside their race. And of course if you went to websites such as Racialicious and Shadow and Act the black women who commented on the movie barely made an issue of the non-black prince. Many in fact liked the fact that he was not black; they saw it as being "progressive." Their interest was all about the black princess and that's it. Nothing else really mattered. So if you somehow only stumbled across "discussions" that were mostly negative about the race of the prince then you and I must be existing on different planets.

As for this TV show I’m surprised that some of you are just realizing the casting decisions that were made. Frankly as soon as they cast a black female to be the wife I lost interest (although the actress is hot). JJ Abrams is behind the show. The same dude who was the producer of “Cloverfield” in which one of the two main couples was a black woman and a white man, the director and producer of the rebooted Star Trek where Uhura has a relationship with Spock, and the writer and producer of the soon to be rebooted Mission Impossible where Anthony Mackie lost out to a white male (Jeremy Renner) for one of the leading roles but black actress Paula Patton won the lead female role. So why not for once have a black guy be paired with a white woman? Oh, we can’t have that. I’m sure there was more of a chance to have a black female with a white man on this show then there ever was to have a black man with a white woman. In fact I’m convinced this show is just a vehicle to showcase two black actresses : the one playing the lead and the one playing her sister. If the show is cancelled at least those two would have gotten a big showcase to introduce themselves to audiences.

The interracial aspect of Star Trek thing isn't new. The first interracial kiss on television was between Uhura and Kirk in the late 60s, so it wasn't surprising that they would go further into that in the rebooted movie. Plus Zoe Saldana is hot. Maybe I'm just not looking too deeply into it.

As for Paula Patton being in the new Mission Impossible (news to me, congratulations to her) she is 'black woman lite'.

I have to admit that many black women are only concerned about themselves and other black women, they support other black women no matter what. I saw a report in the media questioning the casting for the Disney movie but, I heard nothing from any black women that I know nor any in the media.

The black women that have spoken to me about IR are opposed to me dating outside of my race but, support black women doing it without question. I have noticed that they strongly support movies with black women that are about IR in fact black women are just as likely to go to a movie about BW/WM as they are BW/BM and some actually will see the BW/WM movie first, because many of them really do not like BM. It is all about them.

 

They should have picked a White woman to play his wife.

that would please the 'larger' group, because right now they're being discriminated on. You rarely see overweight stars and they NEED to have Gabby in that role. Who cares if she's not physical enough, or athletic enough. It's all about equality.

As long as neither one of their characters has some sort of edge or mental issue, that show won't even make it past the pilot phase.

 

No black filmmakers have the balls to pull something like this off.
