What is a good black man?

The statement "I'm a good Black man", or "He's a good Black man" doesn't just mean one thing. It so happens that in this country, Black men sometimes feel the need to qualify/quantify it because their identity IS OFTEN wrapped up in what they present and represent to the world. I don't think African men ever wake up and have to quantify their Blackness, nor do white American men.

Black American men are told often by many entities that they are no good, bad or this and that, so for them to announce their Blackness along with their goodness is not so much as to separate themselves from bad black men, rather I think it's to declare they're GOOD QUALITY MEN (who are proudly Black).

A good black man doesn't post threads like this.

Yeah, the little black box. This one REALLY pisses me off. This weekend 4 of my friends, 1 mixed female, 2 black males (self included) and 1 white guy are going surfing tomorrow morning.... we're all beginners. I invited another of my black friends to go and she replied 'What color am I?' I HATE that mentality that there are certain things that we are not allowed to do because we are black. It's so limiting it's ridiculous. I wanted to tell her to enjoy her BBQ and watermelon since she's so insistent on promoting stereotypes.

On your post you may notice a green box(s) with a number(s) above them (in your case the rep number is under 100 & 1 box. This is the rep system, it used to encourage forum members to post thoughtful, enlightened ideas/statements/etc, opposed to obviously offensive, racists, name calling, etc. (not indicating you are in either category). Also, if you look at the bottom left of the post, there are three symbols, the one in the middle is a grey/silver scale, if you select this one, it will bring up a window where you can choose to approve or disapprove with that specific post & can leave a short message. (if you find a post so offensive that negative rep dosen't express your concern about a post, or a post breaks the rules is some way, you can click the symbol to the right. It is a black exclamation point in a white rounded triangle with red border I think. Lastly, if you look at the top of the page, there are a bunch subheadings, all the way to the left you will find "user cp" where all the rep messages neg/pos written by members to you are.

I appreciate your willingness to catch on, and the fact that you have an open mind. Sorry if some this doesn't make sense, I'm on an iPhone right now.

It's simple. It's not complicated at all. No need to be elaborate. A good black man is one who puts his family (wife and children) ahead of himself. And he takes responsibility for his actions.
