I know alot of ya are saying "Inger WHO??"

I think I might be the only fella here that had a Mad Boyhood Crush on her & her, uh, Foreign-ness before I even reached my teens...

I had hot, mad fantasies about her even at my tender single-digit age..

I admit it was the Swedish accent she delivered in her telly programme...

I pause to remember her...because she was a member of our IR community Back In The Day.

She dated the great Harry Belafonte...and later married (her second marriage; Her 1st was to her agent, Antony Soglio) a Black American fella - an actor named Ike Jones.

Sadly, she felt she was forced to keep the marriage 'in the closet'...

Since, in our time, "the love that dare not speak its name" has become the love that just won't shut up....there are many, to this day, despite being an allegedly Enlightened and Sophisticated Society...who choose to target certian types of IR's as their scapegoat instead. And back then, there's infalliable rumour that states of Inger not being able to withstand the pressure of being involved in an interracial marriage in The States.

Even in 1970...ESPECIALLY in 1970...and in Hollywood of that era, too?

Obviously, even as far as back then, such relationships were considerably welcomed in *her* fiefdom of the globe (Sverige).

And, under mysterious circumstances (mysterious to the pundits and onlookers, maybe...NOT to Yours Truly) she ended her life.

Who's to say that things might have been different now had she been of a more recent time?

After all, look at Heidi Klum & Seal. SHE'S not had HER modelling gigs taken away...

All I know, is that when I read of her death in the dailies back then (I remember it plain as day in The Chicago-Sun Times), I mourned deeply over it..

And I still feel very sad in retrospect....considering the overall circumstances that prevailed then...

And, to a certain extent, prevail to-day...

I raise a glass of Ramlosa (appropriate, no?) in a tribute toast to you, Inger Stevens...

More sinned against than sinning - to borrow a quote from Carl Sandburg.

In Heaven I know you are considerably happier than you were here on this Mortal Coil.

You had a lotta guts, lady.

    A lotta guts........

    Hej da!

ACartoon,I remember her on reruns of The Farmer's Daughter and some movies. Her death was a mystery since some disputed that she killed herself. No question she hid her marrage to Ike Jones because of what happened to Mai Britt when she married Sammy Davis Jr.

There is not much info on Inger Stevens and strangely she does not appear on the list of Swedish Americans. In my book she belongs to the list of Swedish women who had dated or married Black men like Gunilla Hutton and Mai Britt.

Y'all forgot about former Swedish model Ulla Andersson, who was married to Q (Quincy Jones).

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/Ulla_Jones.jpg

This is Ulla's bio from Wiki:

In 1966, when Ulla was 19 years old, she met Quincy Jones at a party given by TWA in honour of Frank Sinatra in New York. After a whirlwind courtship, Ulla left the 5th Avenue apartment she was subletting from Robert Evans in Manhattan and moved to California to live with Jones. They were soon married and Ulla retired from her modelling career to raise their two children Martina Jones and Quincy Jones III. Earlier that year, Ulla was selected to represent Sweden in the 1966 Miss World pageant, in London, United Kingdom.

The pressures of her husband's touring and social life caused friction in the marriage as did Ulla's growing alcoholism and substance abuse problems. After several years of marriage, she took the children and left her husband. She returned to Sweden where she remains today. Although she and Quincy were formally separated, they were not legally divorced until the mid-1970s, when Quincy was diagnosed with a brain tumor and gravely ill. He was not expected to live and it was his wish to marry his longtime partner, actress Peggy Lipton, for the purpose of legal provisions for their two daughters. Ulla agreed to finalize the divorce and a one-time cash settlement. After receiving a small settlement, she moved out to the suburbs of Stockholm and suffered a string of abusive relationships. Ulla struggled continuously with her finances because of her growing health issues. After 25 years of addiction, she attained sobriety and has been sober for over a decade.

Today, she is a grandmother and is the author of an autobiography 'Red Carpet Blues'.

Yow! She WAS once upon a time "Mrs. Quincy Jones", eh?

I hate to admit it, but I only go back as far as actress Peggy ("Mod Squad") Lipton..

Ah, well...live & learn (or "RE-learn, as the case may be..)

I forgot about that Kid,thanks. Quincy mentioned her in his autobiography but,not much. When I was in a hostel in Stockholm I saw a photo of him and a Swedish jazz singer. I did not see that photo again when the hostel was remodeled but, took some photos thank goodness during my previous stays.

After much research the book is published in Sweden and it is under the name of Ulla Jones.
