yeah it is vey upsetting that people have to go thru that. I know we have a thread around here somewhere talking about how to deal with those issues.
when people see that kind of strain for IR it makes some people hesitant to do it in fear of the backlash and the response from the person they have an affinity for.

A lot of Argentinians and Brazilians have a lot of people of European descent who would be classified as white if they were born some where else so she's not exactly what some might think of as latin.

At this point shit like this makes me laugh. Its a bunch of ugly hateful women who would rather bitch than find a gym and good plastic surgeon so they can find their own happiness.

This is where I'm calling major bs Whikle. I hate when girls feel the need to defend every big chick in the interest of dispelling the skinny girl beauty myth. Why does it always have to be either a 100 lbs girl or a 300 lbs girl (which Gabby clearly is) you mean to tell me there aren't any non skinny girls who are 160 to 200 lbs who don't look like a fucking balloon with feet? Its total horseshit. I definitely see what smooth is talking about. And here's why its offensive. Gabby is the embodiment of what they're trying to sell as black beauty? Do you have any clue how insulting that is? All of her supporters are the lazy ass people who refuse to take care of themselves and white people who have little to no contact with bw and are uncomfortable around them so they'll cosign any bullshit.
And here's a newsflash fat men aren't celebrated either. You won't catch fat person of any gender or race in peoples top 50 beautiful people because its not ideal. Our ideas of beauty as humans in terms of the physical come down to the ideal that we want look like ourselves or would like to fuck period the end. Very few people would consider someone fat as their ideal unless there was a weird pyschological component.

she might be pushing up towards 400. If it's a medical problem, fine. If it's because she eats too much of the wrong shit and refuses to step inside a gym, that's just wrong.

Even if its a medical problem there's no way she should be considered outwardly beautiful. There will NEVER be a leading man with down syndrom which is a medical condition no matter how beautiful his soul is and how good he is at what he does.

I'm sorry, Andrae, I just can't agree with you on this. The two of us are coming at it from entirely different angles.

Gabby weighing 300-400 pounds or however much is not the point. It's not about her being unusually large. The same argument would apply if she were 250 pounds, 200 pounds, 160 pounds... The fact is, she has the right to be promoted positively.

Every time a bigger woman is in the spotlight she is HOUNDED by people who think she's "disgusting" or "unhealthy", and "how DARE they assault our eyes with something so offensive?"... And that's just so unfair and so unhealthy for women's self esteem. It's not about 300 pound women sitting at home being able to feel validated, it's about women everywhere with all types of bodies at all types of weight feeling that it's ok to be who you are, you don't have to look like a supermodel to be accepted by society. You don't have to look like Gabby either, and hey, most women don't. But women are CONSTANTLY bombarded with unrealistic images of beauty. You, as a man, have absolutely zero concept of how that feels for a woman. So frankly, you don't have much right to comment on it, IMO.

Now, I can't talk about Gabby being promoted as "black beauty". I don't live in the states, I don't get that angle on it. But how about Gabby as being presented as "another kind" of beauty. Because she actually is beautiful. And "beauty" HAS to stop being defined as fitting within one little narrow scope of what we see in magazines and on television daily.

Like I said, I don't think it's right to have one example of larger women out there and then the media can brush its' hands and say "ok, we've done our part to promote positive self image, we're done here" and feel good about themselves. We need to have more beautiful women of all shapes and sizes used in all aspects of the media as "the norm". To me, having a woman like Gabby promoted positively is just a step in the right direction, not the holy grail.

And, by the way, I would defend this position just as fiercely if I weighed 120 pounds myself. It's not personal, it's about acceptance and reality.

And THIS... well, this is just ignorance. You have no idea how socially constructed "beauty" is, do you? You have no concept of how much what you find attractive is actually dictated by what is drummed into you by the media and by society as acceptable. Beauty is just like fashion. There will always be those who march to the beat of their own drum, but for the most part we are all blind sheep who will follow the norm.

Different ages, different cultures, different countries have seen a huge variety of bodies being considered the most sexually appealing. We happen to live in a day and age and society that values slender bodies.

Trust me, if women with bodies like mine were promoted in the media the way skinny models and actresses were, I would be the ultimate in sex appeal to the majority of men. Sure, there'd still be those who are attracted to skinnier girls, but they'd be more of a minority like those who are into big girls now. And many women would strive to have bodies like mine because that's what's seen as ultimate beauty.

If you think we as socialised human beings have much control over what we think we "like", you'd be mistaken.

I agree that media plays a part in what we tend to like and I agree it focuses on thinner women and if big women are the new flavor of the month so be it. But I do disagree with the idea that women are the only ones with body image issues. If you think that guys don't look at models and professional athletes with a little envy you're being ignorant my friend. Being human in this media obsessed culture will make anyone self conscious, we as men are just more likely to do something about it because we're more about action and not simply venting about our problems. I also think that if we did it would be considered very female behavior and most men would rather work out than be called a chick.
And I have heard the arguement that there are beautiful body types all over the world but I think the conversation was focused on the American pov and to be honest most guys don't want a girl who wears a size 2 or a 0 but fit and proportionate. And let's keep it real sex is always better when you can pick the chick up and toss her around the bedroom. The men feel masculine and the women feel femanine. That doest happen when the chick weighs as much as the guy or more.

Men have it much easier when it comes to media portrayal. Very rarely is a man's weight even discussed, let alone discussed in such derogatory terms as women are subject to. Overweight men in the media are either treated entirely the same as their in-shape counterparts or portrayed positively in some sort of comedic way.

And absolutely men feel pressure from society to look good. No one's denying that. But I guarantee you there are just as many (I'd dare say many more) women who are busting their ass in the gym and dieting to all hell due to societal pressure as there are men. And there'd be just as many men who sit on their ass and do nothing as there are women.

First off in the states there are few overweight girls in the gym but I imagine that's because women are more image conscious. I imagine they go to Jenny Craig and go for walks but i rarely see big girls on the treadmill or the elliptical. Laziness in America is problem that has no gender but I think women often play victim and I think that's because men aren't allowed to complain. I think if we were we would but its completely unacceptable as a man to complain about anything, it comes of as straight female. So we're either forced to change the problem ie the gym or shut the hell up and stay fat. But you never hear men complaining there isn't enough fat men being celebrated in media because we know its not sexy period. I'm not saying there isn't value in all people but if we're going to sit here and pretend that being extremely overweight is sexy then we're just going to be lying to each other. Are there pretty fat girls out there? Probably but I'm sure there are decent looking people with down syndrome but we're not trying to celebrate their beauty are we?

Have to disagree on this. Men are often criticized just as much on their weight, but often it's on the other side of the spectrum (too thin). As others has mention, society constantly tries to push images on what we are suppose
to look like. For ladies, it's the thinner side of the spectrum, for the guys, it's the bigger. Not only that, but being large was considered desirable by women
of the past due to the belief that being large was consider to be wealthy. (Meaning, poor people couldn't get fat so being fat is an act of financial
stability.) If you are thin, however, you are screwed. Often it is expressed that many lady wants a guy who can protect them. Thus, a guy who is short, or thin, would lack the physical demeanor to possibly provide that avenue.
Which is why many women don't like short guys. And I can speak from first hand experience that many women do not like thin guys, and I can personally attest to the media playing a role on what a man is suppose to be. I've been going to the gym close to 5 times a week. I curl freakin 90 pounds (3 sets of 8) and bench press with dumbells 65 on each arm, yet I'm still 6"2 and a buck sixty. By my mathematical calculations, I'm going to need to curl over 200 pounds just to weight over 200 pounds. I've been turned down many times by women who state they want a guy with more meat on their bones.

Just yesterday, I was approached by my friends grandmother and she states I'm too thin and ask if I eat enough. I freakin eat an entire philly steak subway sandwich (1000 calories and 80 grams of protein) in one sitting. Can you imagine, going to the gym closeo to 5 times a week, you are putting all your hard work and determination trying to get as big as you possibly can just to be seen as a viable dating partner, and people still see no result from you?
I literally lift 40 pounds more curling than I started 3 months ago and not a single person made a remark about me getting bigger, instead, I get the same old thin jokes from both guys and girls alike.

I'm setting aside 500 dollars to buy protein powder, creatine powder, anabolic
powder, the works. So to say that a guy doesn't have to deal with his weight is a very ignorant remark, because I have to deal with that crap on a daily basis, at least until I get to a solid build.
