It's remakes like this, that make us love the originals so much more:D

So they do a service to sometimes forgotten songs and inspire you to remember the much better originals.

I'm not a huge Prince fan either, he's had a couple that I like, but certainly not all. But my point was he is unique, it'd be hard for someone to remake his songs really successfully because they are very branded by his style I think. Love him or hate him, he's still distinctly Prince, or whatever he's calling himself these days.

that is the truth. I think people did well on remaking his songs because the people that did it were very talented and they embraced their style of music and did not try to imitate him.

I don't care if any one says I am bias:smt019. I loved the remakes better than the originals. Changes happens to be #2(arguably against the message which is number 1) on my most meaningful song list. I may be a big fan of the steve miller band but Seal tore that song a new one. He basically made it his own.

Thing is, Puffy isn't anymore guilty than any other producer for using samples. After all, sampling is the backbone of hip-hop production. Puffy loops a Kool and the Gang sample and he catches all hell. Primo loops a Gap Band beat, thorws a trumpet player on the last 20 seconds of the track and people call it gold. Nobody gets on Dre for basically getting a live band to replay a half of the George clinton/Parliament collection for his tracks(That's all the Chronic and Doggystyle were, basically). It's impossible to say which producer samples the most. It's like saying which guitarist plays the most. People get on Puffy for sampling popular tracks to make "watered down mainstream music", but Dre did the exact same thing. He sampled(technically "contained elements of *insert track here*) popular songs from the old school. Anybody who has heard "Not Just Knee Deep" will hear the bassline in a few Dre productions. People will recognize the Curtis Mayfield samples, etc. Dre(And DJ Yella) produced Eazy-E's first album and half the tracks were just loops of Bootsy Collins, The Barkays, Tana Gardner, etc. People call that album a West Coast classic. I think people get on Diddy just because he's Diddy.

And for the record, I hate Diddy/Puffy/whoeverthefuckheisnow, but he made some good shit in the 90s.

you are soooo right but puffy is the best at it. Dre' has the album (the chronic) from sampling.
