nursing should be up there...you may not start at 61k+, but if you work for the department of surgery at a big hospital, you can expect to get there in a few years. Starting salary around here is around for a RN with a BS is around 24-27 range, depending on where you go. But of course, we arent supposed to go to school for the sole intent on making money. We're supposed to go there to advance our knowledge of different areas, and make a difference within our sphere of influence ie people we come into contact with.



As for fun jobs, I don't know with computers. Coding can be boring and down-right funky when you write in one thing, and get an output that is another. But you do get to sit on your ass a lot, lol. You don't have to stand for hours looking into the belly of a man on a table. Web design can be fun tho.

four years, even two in some cases such as nursing (you're allowed to sit for the RN exam with an associates, and still make $$$) is a minor inconvenience, as compared to 30-40 years working jobs you cant stand for shit dollars, because you didn't do the work you needed to do to grad. Even tho having a degree isn't a guarantee in this job market, with more grads than empty positions, it's something worth pursuing right after high school, so you can have it as a backup.

ive been through racism in my time, but for me actually handing in my work and knowing what I needed to know, usually got me over it. It wasn't like I was being lynched in the public square, or had dogs sicked on me everytime I shown up for class. Come on, Son!

 

This is why I push for minorities to go into the medical field. Pharmacy takes 6 years. The Starting salary is close to $100,000 every year at worse if you get a job. Nurses gets to 70 or 800000 after certain amount of years. The doctors make a crazy amounts sometimes. At the same time, we are going to need more doctors, nurses and pharmacist. We are having a huge shortage on them.

 

Don't worry the more we globalize the lest plentiful those options will be so we'll have more to complain about instead of taking action.

 

well, the medical field isnt all about making huge amounts of dollars sometimes. Their insurance fees are only getting higher, and malpractice is still a culprit. Plus, you have the astronomical fees from med school, that you're paying off. Not to mention residency doesn't pay that well. There's a ton of factors that play into it. We definitely have qualified blacks in this country that could be good in the field tho. The dollars in that field come after you get the experience. It's one of those long-term professions. But you still get a ton of respect and admiration, that exists from med school and beyond.

you sound like my mother who acted like I was one of a kind, when in REALITY, i was in schools with tons of other black kids, that performed better than me



she tried to convince my family that my high-school was 'filled with Asians.' (because you know asian kids are the bomb in academics) I used to tell them that it actually wasnt, and that there was a healthy proportion of black students around (who do you think played football). She'd turn around at me and would tell everyone that I didn't know what I was talking about.

Of course I didnt, I was just there everyday of the fucking week.

late edit - my point being that some of us still do live in the dark ages, where a scholastically successful black man is as rare as a three-headed Mothra. It's just not the case anymore, but some people just cant move forward.
