For the love of God go to a school in the inner cities and just see how incredibly unruly and disruptive a lot of these kids are. As far as as discipline goes no one wants to do it because the school districts are so afraid of law suits they're willing to fire or suspend the teacher at the first sign of trouble. It goes both ways its not just poor young black boys being picked on.

As far as the discpline angle is concerned I think people are confusing discipline with punishment. Are black children usually treated unfairly? Absolutely but a lot of it has to do with classrooms filled with kids who misbehave and not being able to effectively classroom manage. I think the amazingly inaccurate picture being drawn is that black boys are perfect angels who are being picked on and little attention is placed on how obsessed they are with thug culture that leads them to be unruly. You're average black boy wants to be like a rapper and emulate thug culture with that said how can a teacher discipline that kind of mentality when they can be suspended based on accusations now instead of truths. All a kid has to say is that you touched them weird and that's the end of your career as a teacher.its no wonder a lot of teachers have the suspend them and get them out of the school to protect my job approach.

hmmm...I dont know Karma. I understand we all cant agree at times. But it just seems he's Anti-Black on alot of threads he posts on. I appreciate the realness from people, I myself can be seen as a staunch Pro-Black person, yet anti-racist. Him calling out the Caribbean people is such bs by the way.....

 

The thing is, people can accept the racist meme that young Black males perform differently because they are inferior, and simply demand that they try harder or they can address the ever-increasing inequality in American schools. The first way builds a compliant, easily led lower class out of Black people. The second way leads to improved policies that in turn lead to a greater parity of educational success stories regardless of race.

It's self loathing versus science. And sadly, some people don't like science.

Or it can be realized that its not enough to complain and demand change from other when we aren't willing to change ourselves. Black people have been singing and begging for help from white people since the minute we step foot here and all that ever happens is things change when it benefits another group ie the Civil War was about preservation of the Union and the best way to do that was to destabilize the southern work force by abolishing slavery. Sure there were people who disagreed with slavery on a moral level but the powers that be didn't see fit to stop it until the south wanted to succeed from the Union. The civil rights movement didn't happen until a lot of liberal politicians saw the black vote as untapped market and a way to achieve power over other elite whites and certain special interests groups got involved so they could use the black struggle to further push the womens liberation movement. We only attain small levels of equality when it benefits someone else not because people feel its the right to do. Altruism is a very nice thought but rarely practiced. Translated people rare do things out of the kindness of their hearts.

We as black men need to hold ourselves more accountable and to a higher standards.
We as black men need to seek out and fight for our salvation through education and more disciplined lifestyles.
We as black men need to be strong and start trusting each other again because we can't down it seperately. We've tried and failed time and time again. The crabs in a barrel mentality needs to end.

I'm not saying we haven't been mistreated abused and lied to but one thing I KNOW for sure is if we wait around for "someone else" to give us a helping hand we are completely fucked ie New Orleans 2005. The schoolboards need to do to their job and provide better learning experiences for our children but in the mean time let's figure out away to turn our mud into mud pies so we can survive. We aren't helpless children who need a pat on the head from the white patriarchal capitalist driven divionist system. We aren't their priority so we need to start helping ourselves.

I implore anyone for the sake of this important debate to bring forth a better solution because quite frankly when we bitch too much we start to become little bitches and that's not my goal in life. Is it yours?
