That kissing up to white people thing is way more of an American culture thing considering white people are the majority here and there was a different slave master relationship. Islands like Jamaica are around 90 percent black, they see white people as tourists/very different from them and tend to stick around their own. To this day my parents have only Jamaican friends and were never comfortable with me bringing ww home.

 

I read an article once where Carribbean nannies refused to work for upper-middle class African-American would-be employers. This was in New York.
