Welcome back from the dead, bruh. Good to have a logical senior member voice heard on this crazy board again!
:smt038 :smt038 :smt038 This is why you're missed. I stayed up solely for the purpose of reading this, and I'm pleased that I did. Oh and disregard what I just sent, it's moot now Sugar, and I'm pleased to be wrong. :smt008 P.S. There is nothin' sexier than a man with a brilliant mind, who isn't afraid to speak his mind.
Yes I am. I have a BA in political science and I am pretty well informed when it comes to the subject of ideology. Islamic faith is an ideology just as much as the confederacy was and in their purist forms they operate much differently than how people practice them so as I said before try again. I ain't no new jack homie.
My prediction is the following: The mayor will defend their right to be there. Behind the scenes, he will offer a better place(probably at lower cost) to avoid this nonsense from people complaining about it for absurd reasons. The other option is the owner stays there and everyone gets less concerned about it like the white house being built by slaves.
Karm Your point in regards to Detroit is understood but cannot be applicable in every case. No offense, you don’t know if they are trying to fuck with us none of us know, all of us are assuming their reasoning and judging the merits of where to build the Mosque. One of the best things about this country is our freedoms real, imaginary or matrix like. They have the right to build where ever and practice their religion where ever. I continue to reiterate the staunch antagonism against the building of the mosque is many Americans do not understand what Islam is about. We are not at war with these people as you stated. We are at war with people who hate western ideology or our way of life. These people claim to follow Islam and they most certainly do not. A muslim who truly follows Islam should be one of the most peaceful, polite and most humble people you ever meet. One of the five pillars of their belief; (similar to the 10 commandments) is to give to the poor to assist the less fortunate. By all accounts we know Sadaam did not give a damn about his people and we can categorize many others as not giving a damn especially those that flew planes into the world trade. You also mentioned Barrack should be a cheerleader first for this country; he actually is by promoting the very threads of our constitution. I know someone who just returned from the Middle East, a white American coming back from Saudi Arabia . For those who do not know this month for Muslims is Ramadan, they are fasting for the month of August. If he were out drinking a bottle of water or eating publicly he would have been arrested. Their government would arrest a foreigner because of their tradition. Seems unfair to me, I am thankful we can BURN (I would not do so) our flag in the street and throw shoes without fear of death and so can anyone who is NOT American. Had Barrack came out against the building of the Mosque he would be going against the constitution; real, imagined or matrix like these are our freedoms. I believe he cheers for Americans...
Thanks. I know you're not brown nosing. But I didn't realize you had to have a certain amount of posts or have STUMBLED onto this website years ago to be deemed "worthy" enough to post on a topic that's being discussed all over the country...lol
There's a whole lotta racial profiling in this post. * If a white person woulda cited examples of black people such as this there'd be hel to pay.* But since we're talking about "those people" it's ok... There are bad people of all races, genders, and ethnicities. The problem is we don't know who's the bad guy until they show their true colors. How do we alleviate that problem? Maybe we should just round em all up and ship them back to the Middle East?
YOU are the one that is playing dumb (no offense). You should really educate yourself on the guy behind this "community center"(I cant even type that with a straight face lol). His name is Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and he has made plenty of controversal statements over the years. He also wont tell the media where the money is coming from (100 million dollars btw) and he doesnt think of Hamas is a terrorist organization of any kind. ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ME?!?!:smt103 http://www.redcounty.com/content/exposing-real-imam-feisal-abdul-rauf Oh and here is another comforting little tidbit about this "man of peace" •Rauf seeks more U.S. legal “leeway” for sharia --- to put Muslims above the law --- by “[Inviting] voices of all religions to join the dialogue in shaping the nation’s practical life, [and allowing] religious communities ... to judge ...according to their own laws.16 On Dec. 9, 2007, Rauf said in Arabic to Sa’da Abdul Maksoud of the Hadi-el-Islam website, that current, unjust governments, “do not follow Islamic laws.” He advocates establishing sharia “in more [ways than one] ... through a kingdom or a democracy, [so long as the] fundamentals of Shariah [exist, with standards of Muslim scholars] required to govern. ...to organize ... relationships between government ... and the governed.” 17 In March 2010, also in Arabic, Rauf stridently denounced interfaith discussions. “I don't believe in interfaith dialogue,” he said in an article that highlighted his statement in its headline.
you're pretty sharp for a new guy and yes it is racial profiling, but since it doesn't involve pulling black people over, under the suspicion they're driving stolen cars (u know we cant afford shit, po' asses) or something along those matters, no one cares. You know, we ourselves are considered terrorists to certain groups of people, due to simple statistics, daily encounters, and what they see in the media. We don't blow up buildings, but we do enough as a group otherwise, to make people afraid of us. We should be the Muslims' biggest ally when it comes to discrimination and racism from the majority.
Only because I read this article and thought it brought up some interesting viewpoints on both sides, am I posting anything still in this thread. But this will be my last post in this thread. This is a good article that nicely articulates the pros and cons of building it there: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100818/ap_on_re_us/us_ground_zero_mosque_us_muslims
Cenk Uygar made an interesting point on the Young Turks: There's a Japanese Cultural Center in Honolulu and churches in Hiroshima. Also, I don't get us vs them in this. Muslims are us. They have been a part of this country for ages. They're as American as Evangelicals. They died on 911, and in our wars, and in these wars that we're having right now. There's no us versus them, if them is Muslims, because Muslims 'R' us, too.
Ted Oslon, former Bush administration Solicitor General whose wife died on one of the planes hijacked during the 9/11 attacks, comes out in support of Cordoba House. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/18/liz-cheneys-keep-america-_n_686697.html
(Sigh) Japan attacked Pearl Harbor not Honolulu. And lmao of course there are churches in Hiroshima (those arent associated with the United States)
that is where (strip clubs and what not) the terrorists had their last days. also if it is HALLOWED GROUND THEN treat it as so. lastly why are they trying to run other mosques off in other states ?
Wow, ONE guy that was affected by 9/11 supports the building of the mosque. The vast majority of the people effected by 9/11 find it very tasteless and insensitive. Yes, of course techinically they CAN build the mosque there, but it is quite insensitive and idiotic of them to do so. Also raocha, I am still wondering what your opinion of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is. I am refering to my post made on page 13 #128. You conveniently didnt comment on it lol.
On light side, there some racial comedy by Mencia.
as long as it's not some elderly white guy commenting on 'nappy headed hoes,' in reference to black female ballers right
