Anyway, this type of multi-slurs by that woman should not be taken lying down. If it was some other minority she would be out on a rail. Are Black-Americans doormats? I hope not.

I disagree. Bigotry is en vogue at the moment. There are people all over the radio and television bashing Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, Muslims ect day in and day out.

The woman who called Dr. Laura and provoked her nasty little rant certainly is. Did she really need to get advice about the fact that her husband refuses to confront his friends about making racist comments about her and Black people in general in their own home? I can't imagine how anyone without serious self-esteem issues would tolerate that kind of behavior.

if we're going to call out bigotry, we may as well be fair and unbiased about it

    ;)

unless the specific target is a minority, which changes the game

She just announced she's quitting her radio talk show at the end of the year. I didn't even know she still had a show up until this controversy. Anyway, many of her sponsors dropped her so it sounds like she was forced to resign. I really like that.

Man oh man. I didn't think it would get that far. Had she simply stuck to the topic, she would not have lost so many sponsors. The caller wasn't hypersensitive. It is that she was numb to it or had not experienced it at all. Imagine if the caller has kids. The kids will have to live in that environment. I sure would love to hear about how the caller is doing in her marriage a couple years from now. At least, she'll be known for bringing Dr.laura down. lol

She also stated in her announcement of resignation that she wants to have her first amendment rights back or something along that line. I'm not sure how to take that. So if she wanted to say what she said and claim that she was only experiencing her first amendment rights then I don't know what the apology was for. The shitty thing about this whole thing is that she will most likely land a gig with Fox Networks before you know it and make mega millions and be allowed to be as notorious as she wants to be. As sad is it may be there is audience for her crap/craft

translation: My money(sponsors) are leaving me so I must apologize in order to not lose them. That's how the game goes. You aren't suppose to be controversial or the sponsors may lose customers to sell their products to. Now she is free to say ignorant things as much as she wants or in her words I got my first amendment rights back.

She shouldn't lose her job. I'm a fierce supporter of free speech and its shame we are getting to a point where people can't say anything without the highest penalties being used against them.

The trouble with this is she did have freedom of speech. She didn't lose her job. She quit. albeit, it was because she was losing sponsors(probably). She could have kept going if she wanted to. Freedom of speech does not entitle freedom from consequences. People have to be aware of that on the public forum(this part is not at you because I know you with your B.A. in political science knows better than most of us on how this game is played)

Well made point Arch. I guess I'm just tired of people being so sensative about everything. Was she being a rude cunt? Absolutely and there should be a penalty but being forced to resign(which is more likely what happened) is a relfection of our inability to move on and allow people to change.

Yea, I agree. She has made several comments before at other sections of America but I didn't think it was going to go this far though. She wasn't insulting any one like don imus on this particular segment. If she had just stuck to the point and not wandered to saying the n-word and talking about obama, she would have still had the show.

Not to take this thread of topic, but I'm confused. Isn't your opposition to the "Ground Zero Mosque" rooted in the belief that its mere presence will upset too many people and hence cause serious problems?

Like GZ in the other thread, you're all over place in terms of beliefs and rationalizations. When it comes to the construction of the community center/"mosque," the feelings of any supposedly aggrieved party are the foremost consideration according to you. Here, you're essentially telling anyone who didn't like the ignorant bullshit that came out of this woman's mouth to STFU.

Do you respect the right of other people to have hurt feelings or not? Which is it? Or do you only think that Black people don't have a right to be offended? I find this post to be genuinely perplexing considering your other responses to me. I mean seriously, you claim to fervently support the first amendment here, but you just spent a couple of days opining about how you think that another right guaranteed by that amendment should be denied to a group of people because some other people may find their religion to be offensive.

BTW This has jack shit to do with the first amendment. Dr. Laura wasn't arrested and tossed into jail for bad mouthing Black people. Some of her sponsors made a decision based on an cost/benefit analysis that continued advertisement on her program wasn't a good idea. I'm betting she'll land on her feet on one of the Fox channels in a few months just like Imus did.

I'm simply asking you to expound upon your contradictory opinions regarding the first amendment, which you claimed to respect immeasurably in this thread but seem to have little regard for in the other one.

I never "agreed to disagree" with anyone in that other thread especially not you. Now, if you want to fall back on that canard because you realize that your opinions in the two threads in question are totally irreconcilable from any logical standpoint and that I just owned your ass, be my guest.
