Oh yes when she said the N-word three times it reminded me of Micheal Richards in that comedy club years back. Unlike Richards Dr.Laura said it much more than him.

the biggest issue in my view also was the attack she made on IR relationships. To say that if you are that hypersensitive, you shouldn't marry outside of your race. I was like WTF?! This lady is a nut case. Fruit basket galore.

I'm not feeling her apology. Is it a sincere apology? *Did she apologize because it was heartfelt or wallet-felt?*

I could go on & on about nigg(a) vs nogg(er) but I won't. Both words are derogatory, yet different in some black people's eyes. *But generally speaking, white people shouldn't say either because of the history behind their race saying it.

And listening to the audio, it didn't sound the same coming from her as it would if a black person saying it. *It sounded derogatory coming from her (to me.)

If that were say, Jamie Fox saying it on his radio show it wouldn't strike as much a nerve with me. I wouldn't want him saying it because it ain't cool, not because I took it the same as a white person saying it... * *

Is it a double standard? Absolutely. But there are plenty double standards in the world, so people shouldn't act brand new...

A loose example is the use of the word "b!tch." I've heard plenty women use it as a term of endearment AND in a derogatory manner other women, but get mad if a man says it to them...

Even though the word is used a lot in rap, but a lot of people are still offended by it...

What people say behind closed doors (in the bedroom for example) isn't what i'm referring to here.

If anyone really listens to the audio or reads the entire transcript, "nigger" is the LEAST offensive thing Dr. Laura said.

    1) Attacking the woman out of the gate, to "prove" a "racist example" cause some people are "hypersensitive"

    2) Some of my best friends are black (ie. black bodyguard/dear friend)

    3) Don't "NAACP me"

    4) Bringing up Obama - blacks should stop hating/blaming whites, now

    5) Classic: Black people say it, why can't I? (must be frustrating for her)

    6) Don't marry outside your race if you can't take racial jokes/comments, etc..

    etc...etc...

Schlessinger is an extreme right-wing bigot who has a long history of comments hateful toward ethnic groups (esp. Latinos and blacks), gays/lesbians, etc. This was no "philosophical debate". This was a woman who finally came unglued and couldn't "code-word" her bigotry any longer.

It is who she is. Period.

Am I the only person that finds it odd that certain white people are the only non-black group who insists on using the word nigger because black say nigga a lot? Why aren't we having this same problem with Asians, Native Americans, or Latinos? Even though other minorities use the N-word, they use it in the same manner blacks do -- to mean dude. White people are not that naive to believe there is little difference between saying the word nigga to nigger. In fact they very reason whites say nigger is to debase the usage of the word nigga to be offensive and shame black people.

It's funny that's these conservative scream about personal responsibility, yet black people are responsible for white people usage of the word nigger.

Did you know, black people constantly call themselves monkey, lazy, and violent. That's why that hasn't went away.

With all due respect, I really think that you should listen to the recording before continuing to comment on this topic. The original story downplays this incident IMO. Her saying "nigger" on air is the least troubling aspect of what happened.

What I find most offensive about her rant is her ethnicity. She's a Jew. She should've known better. This type of racial hate mongering didn't get her people in a nice place.

One of my old roommates from when I was an undergrad used to love to listen to her show. He thought that she was a vile person who had no business giving anyone advice, but he really enjoyed listening to the way that she put down her callers. His reasoning was that anyone who was stupid enough to solicit advice from Dr. Laura deserved to be insulted. I tried listening to her show a few times, but I never found it to be entertaining at all. However, I did end up subscribing to my friend's opinion that no one in their right mind should want to call her after listening to how she deals with people.

She hasn't been relevant in a long time. The peek of her popularity was during the 90s. I didn't even know that she was still on the air until I saw this story.

What annoyed me most about this transcript is that the woman called with what seemed like a legitimate concern because that's not the first time I've heard bw or non white women in a relationship talk about this topic while being with a white man. I've never had a gf or had ww friends who've dated bm and had to deal with this shit. I don't agree that there is a double standard when using the word. Its all about context, anyone over the age of thirty using the word ain't using it as a term of endearment. There's usually a negative feeling attached. She's supposedly a doctor and that means she's not simple enoughto believe there isn't a clear difference. And the bp voting for Obama thing always gets under my skin. Black people have voted over 85 percent democrat since the civil rights era so him getting 95 percent of the vote from black people means nothing that's just how we vote. If it had been Collin Powell then maybe there would be a point and even if bp voted for Obama because he's black there were far more wp who voted for McCain for similar reasons. Geesh.

Those other "minorities" use the word just like whites do...they even have their own.

Double standards are here to stay. That's just 1 example. Men & women both say there are double standards based on gender also. You know those are ingrained into society...

Nope. Double standards are here to stay.*
